This Bespoke Family Of Four Classic Defender V8s Has Paint That Changes Colour In The Light
Land Rover Classic has built a one-off family of four restomodded Classic Defender V8s for a single client, and in the process has expanded the range with a new 110 Double Cab Pick-Up bodystyle. The commission also marks the debut of a 90 Hard Top option, taking the total number of available Classic Defender V8 bodystyles to five.
Every car in the quartet, comprising a 90 Station Wagon, 90 Soft Top, 110 Station Wagon and the new 110 Double Cab Pick-Up, wears a colour-shifting Spectral Green paint finish that swings between green, purple and gold depending on the angle and the light. Land Rover Classic says each car spent close to 400 hours in its in-house paint shop to get the effect just right.

What Makes The Colour-Changing Defenders So Unusual
The Spectral Green finish does not stop at the bodywork. It extends to the diamond-turned 18-inch Sawtooth alloy wheels, the exterior badging and the central interior fascia panels, so the whole car flips hue together rather than just the panels catching the light. Each Defender gets a contrasting Icy White roof and expedition cage, along with a Defender bonnet script and hand-painted white coachlines running the length of the body.

Inside, the four-car family is trimmed in semi-aniline Bridge of Weir Vanilla leather across the seats and trim, finished with contrast green stitching that ties back to the exterior colour. The carpets use Superwool material bound in Bridge of Weir leather, with floor mats carrying a debossed Defender wordmark for good measure.
New Bodystyles & Tech For Classic Defender V8 Buyers

The headline mechanical news is the arrival of the 110 Double Cab Pick-Up, a four-door, five-seat layout that brings proper load-bay practicality to the Classic Defender V8 range for the first time. It joins a compact two-seat 90 Hard Top as the newest bodystyle option, sitting alongside the existing 90 Station Wagon, 90 Soft Top and 110 Station Wagon.
Land Rover Classic has also added a new 9-inch touchscreen infotainment system that slots into a custom fascia, bringing wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, DAB+ radio, Bluetooth and a 13-band graphic equaliser to a car that has traditionally skipped modern tech. An optional reversing camera hides within the rear bumper or step, complete with its own lens washer.

Every Classic Defender V8 is rebuilt from a donor Defender originally built at Solihull between 2012 and 2016, then stripped down and remastered with a 5.0-litre naturally aspirated V8 producing 405PS and 515Nm of torque, paired with an eight-speed ZF automatic gearbox with a sport mode. Chassis changes include revised suspension geometry, uprated springs, dampers and anti-roll bars, a reworked steering system and larger brakes with 335mm front and 300mm rear discs gripped by four-piston calipers.
Expanded Customisation Options For Works Bespoke Clients

Land Rover Classic has also widened the colour palette for roofs and the 16-inch heavy-duty Wolf wheel option, adding Fuji White and Corris Grey to the list. A new Trophy Pack brings a Narvik Black Gloss bonnet, roof, rear door assembly and wheel arches for buyers after extra contrast against the body colour.
Land Rover Classic Director Dominic Elms stated, "This spectacular Works Bespoke commission demonstrates the breadth of Land Rover Classic's customisation capabilities - the result of a collaborative creative process that engages our clients with our in‑house design, engineering and craftspeople to bring their vision to life. An authentic Classic Defender V8 (or four, in this case), hand‑built and remastered by the original manufacturer."
