Force Motors Builds 2 Lakh Engines For Mercedes-Benz In India: A Major Milestone

Force Motors has achieved a major milestone by manufacturing 2 lakh engines for Mercedes-Benz in India. The long-standing partnership, which began in 1997, has now reached another important landmark with this achievement.

Force Manufactures 2 Lakh Engines For Mercedes-Benz

Mercedes-Benz and Force Motors have shared a strategic partnership for nearly three decades, focused on manufacturing engines and axles. Under this collaboration, Force Motors manufactures and supplies powertrains and axle components for Mercedes-Benz vehicles sold and exported from India.

The partnership has now crossed the 2 lakh production mark, with the 200,000th engine being fitted into the Mercedes-Benz GLS 450. Over the years, both companies have strengthened their manufacturing capabilities and supply chain operations through this collaboration.

Global Standards

Force Motors manufactures these engines at its Chakan facility in Pune. German engines are globally known for their precision engineering, performance, and advanced technology. For an Indian manufacturer like Force Motors to produce these engines at scale highlights the company's strong industrial capability and manufacturing quality.

The Chakan plant was developed specifically to meet the global production standards set by Mercedes-Benz. This latest milestone reflects the trust, quality standards, and long-term partnership between the two brands. Under the Make in India initiative, the Indian government has been encouraging large-scale automotive manufacturing and localisation of key vehicle components.

Under this partnership, Force Motors also benefits from using Mercedes-Benz-derived engine technology in some of its own vehicles. The Force Gurkha uses an older-generation Mercedes-based diesel engine, while the Force Traveller and Force Urbania use Force-developed diesel engines that are based on Mercedes-origin architecture. This long-standing technical collaboration has helped Force strengthen its own powertrain capabilities over the years.

This milestone further highlights India's growing strength in premium automotive manufacturing, engineering excellence, and skilled labour. The achievement by Force Motors and Mercedes-Benz could encourage more global OEMs to strengthen their manufacturing base in India.

India has already become one of the world's largest automotive manufacturing hubs, with global brands like BMW, Renault, Nissan, Honda, Hyundai, Kia, and Toyota manufacturing and exporting vehicles globally. Even local manufacturers like Tata Motors, Mahindra, Maruti Suzuki manufacture vehicles and components here and export them to various global markets.
