BYD Debuts 5-Minute EV Flash Charging Tech In UK: Will It Come To India Next?
BYD has introduced its new ultra-fast charging technology in the UK market, which can charge electric vehicles in just five minutes. This new system is one of the fastest EV charging technologies in the world.

The Chinese carmaker has now started expanding this charging network outside China, with Europe becoming its first international market. This has also raised questions on whether BYD could bring this fast-charging technology to India in the future.

This new flash-charging technology can deliver an incredible 1,500 kW of power, allowing electric vehicles to charge in just minutes - almost as quickly as refuelling a conventional petrol or diesel car.
How it works?
This flash-charging technology works with BYD's second-generation Blade Battery 2.0 and can charge a vehicle from 5 per cent to 70 per cent in just five minutes. The battery can also reach close to 100 per cent charge in under nine minutes.

BYD calls this technology "Ready in 5, Full in 9, Cold Add 3", which means the car can be made ready for a daily commute in just five minutes, fully charged in nine minutes, and in colder weather conditions it may take an additional three minutes.
A New Benchmark for EVs
This new flash-charging system is setting a new benchmark for electric vehicles. One of the biggest barriers to EV adoption has always been charging time. Most EV owners usually charge their vehicles overnight to secure enough range for the next day.

However, BYD's new flash-charging technology changes that completely by making charging almost as quick and convenient as filling petrol in an ICE-powered vehicle. The company also conducted a live demonstration of this technology for media in the UK.
Another key advantage is that this flash-charging setup can work with a standard charging network without requiring large-scale additional grid infrastructure. BYD is now expanding this flash-charging network to global markets, especially Europe.
While the company has not confirmed plans for the Indian market yet, BYD is already introducing its new DM-i hybrid technology, which claims to deliver over 1,000 km of range on a single tank.
