BMW M Concept Neue Klasse Debuts at Le Mans: Previews First Electric M3
The BMW M Concept Neue Klasse has made its world premiere at the 24 Hours of Le Mans, previewing the design language and technology direction for the brand's first all-electric M3. A petrol-powered M3 variant and a Touring estate version are both confirmed to continue alongside the electric model.
Revealed on 12 June 2026, the concept draws directly from BMW M's motorsport heritage and previews design signatures and drivetrain technology set to carry over to future production M cars.

BMW M Concept Neue Klasse - Exterior Design
Wide wheel arches, a muscular shoulder section, and a V-shaped bonnet with a large air outlet for EV drivetrain cooling define the front end. The shark nose integrates the kidney grille and headlights into a single unit, a cleaner arrangement than the current M3's styling.

New M Yellow Lights feature across both front and rear ends and are confirmed as a signature element for all future BMW M road cars. The three-dimensional Track Lights in the outer sections of both aprons reference the BMW M Hybrid V8 Le Mans hypercar.
The front apron uses a trimaran-style three-part bumper inspired by high-speed sailing boats, which also provides structural support for the large front splitter. At the rear, a twin-fin ducktail spoiler boosts aerodynamic downforce at the rear axle.

Natural fibre composite replaces conventional carbon fibre on the front splitter, bonnet duct, and diffuser, materials BMW has confirmed for use on upcoming production M cars. The concept wears a Monza Red metallic paint finish with red-and-blue centre-lock wheels.
BMW M Concept Neue Klasse - Interior and Features

The Panoramic iDrive display from the new 3 Series replaces the traditional instrument cluster with a customisable screen stretching across the base of the windscreen. The cabin is nearly button-free, with a red gear selector and matching red shift paddles as the primary controls.
The electric M3 will use a virtual gearbox system, similar in concept to the Mercedes-AMG GT 4-Door. A floating dashboard finished in black knit material with M-specific hexagonal backlighting is also expected to carry over to the production car.
Four bucket seats trimmed in Bathurst Blue and Berry Red Merino leather with five-point race belts feature in the concept. Black nubuck leather on the steering wheel, door panels, and roll bar marks its first use in a BMW M vehicle.

BMW M Concept Neue Klasse - Electric Powertrain
The BMW M eDrive system uses four electric motors, one per wheel, managed by BMW M Dynamic Performance Control software running on the Heart of Joy high-performance computer. An 800-volt architecture and a 100kWh-plus battery with a BMW M-specific version of sixth-generation cylindrical cells form the electrical foundation.
Each axle pairs two symmetrically mounted motors with integrated single-speed gearboxes. The front axle can be decoupled for rear-wheel-drive operation or to improve range efficiency on longer journeys. BMW has previously cited a theoretical peak output of 1,341bhp from this quad-motor setup, though the production figure has not been confirmed.
BMW M Concept Neue Klasse - Petrol Variant
The petrol-powered BMW M3 will use a six-cylinder engine with mild-hybrid assistance rather than a plug-in system. BMW's M Ignite pre-chamber combustion technology, developed for Euro 7 compliance, is being added to all straight-six M cars in 2026.
Output is expected to be marginally higher than the current M3 Competition's 523bhp and 650Nm. Whether the engine will be the existing S58, the B58, or an entirely new unit has not yet been confirmed.
The standard Neue Klasse 3 Series arrives later in 2026, with the next-generation M3 expected to be revealed in 2027 before going on sale in 2028. A Touring estate version is expected to arrive alongside the sedan.
