Toyota GR GT Supercar Revealed With 641bhp Twin-Turbo V8 & Hybrid Tech

Toyota Gazoo Racing has unveiled the GR GT, a new hybrid V8 supercar developed alongside its GT3 racing counterpart as part of a unified performance programme. The reveal marks the first public showing of both vehicles in prototype form, signalling Toyota's intent to evolve its motorsport engineering into a next-generation road-legal flagship.

The GR GT uses a newly developed 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8 engine paired with an electric motor integrated into the rear transaxle. Toyota has set development targets of 641bph and 850 Nm sent to the rear wheels, with the hybrid system engineered for rapid response and long-range circuit performance.

A key milestone for the GR GT is Toyota's first full aluminium body frame. The structure combines aluminium castings and extrusions, with carbon-fibre-reinforced plastic panels used where additional rigidity or weight reduction is required. This is to achieve a low weight, high rigidity and a low centre of gravity.

Component positioning in the GR GT has been intentionally lowered, including the V8 engine with its dry-sump system, rear transaxle, fuel tank and drive battery. The driving position has also been placed low to align the driver's centre of gravity with that of the car, helping refine steering response and stability during high-load manoeuvres.

Aerodynamic development guided the styling of the GR GT, with Toyota prioritising airflow efficiency, cooling and high-speed stability before finalising the design. Prototype targets for the Toyota GR GT have revealed that Gazoo Racing is aiming for a top speed exceeding 320 km/h.

Body dimensions of the GR GT stand at 4,820 mm in length, 2,000 mm in width and 1,195 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2,725 mm. Curb weight is aimed at 1,750 kg or lower, with a 45:55 front-to-rear weight distribution.

The Toyota GR GT supercar features new double-wishbone suspension front and rear, forged aluminium control arms and carbon-ceramic disc brakes. Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 tyres, developed exclusively for the GR GT, are mounted on lightweight 20-inch wheels to support high-grip driving on track and road.

Inside, the ergonomics and visibility were tuned for professional and enthusiast drivers. The cockpit layout focuses on quick-read instrumentation, intuitive control placement and reduced eye movement during high-speed driving. Development of the GR GT's interior included feedback from drivers of the 2000GT and Lexus LFA.

Toyota has also introduced the GR GT3 variant in parallel to the road-spec GR GT, with both cars sharing architecture, design principles and engineering objectives. The Toyota GR GT3 is built for FIA GT3-class sports car racing and reflects Toyota's plan to deepen its customer-racing footprint through a unified GT programme.

Both GR GT and GR GT3 prototypes are being developed at multiple circuits, including the Fuji Speedway and the Nürburgring, as well as on public roads. Toyota will continue to refine the performance and regulatory compliance of both the road-going and race cars and looks to be targeting a launch in 2027, subject to further testing and homologation progress.
