Tony Stewart And Matt Hagan Advance To Finals At NHRA Four-Wide Nationals In Charlotte

Tony Stewart Racing (TSR) drivers Tony Stewart and Matt Hagan showcased their skills at the NHRA Four-Wide Nationals in Charlotte. Both drivers advanced to the final rounds in their respective categories, Top Fuel and Funny Car. Stewart, fresh from his first NHRA Top Fuel win in Las Vegas, aimed for another victory but finished third. Meanwhile, Hagan also secured a third-place finish in the Funny Car class.

Stewart's performance in Charlotte marked his third consecutive final round appearance. He qualified eighth and defeated top qualifier Doug Kalitta in the first round with a 3.779-second run. Despite finishing third in the final against Shawn Langdon and Justin Ashley, Stewart is now second in the NHRA Mission Top Fuel points standings.

Hagan, a four-time NHRA World Funny Car champion, entered as the defending champion at Charlotte. He qualified eighth and won his opening rounds with impressive runs of 3.939 and 3.962 seconds. In the final round, Hagan faced tough competition from Austin Prock and Ron Capps but finished third with a 3.939-second run.

The Virginia driver’s consistent performance has moved him to second place in the NHRA Mission Funny Car points standings as they head to Joliet for the Route 66 NHRA Nationals on May 16-18.

Sweden’s Ida Zetterström made her return to NHRA Top Fuel action with her JCM Racing/Dodge//SRT dragster in Charlotte. She delivered consistent performances throughout the weekend but narrowly missed advancing to the semifinals with a 3.753-second run in the first round.

The upcoming Route 66 NHRA Nationals will feature nitro qualifying sessions starting on May 16 at 2 p.m., with eliminations scheduled for May 18 at 10:30 a.m.
