Maserati 3500GT Restored By Touring Superleggera Showcased At Rétromobile 2025 Event
An exceptional Maserati 3500GT, restored by Touring Superleggera with Maserati Classiche's support, is showcased at Rétromobile 2025. This rare 1959 model, originally for California and owned by the Dodge family for years, has been meticulously restored to honour Italian craftsmanship. The vehicle retains all original components, ensuring its historical authenticity and unique identity.
The Maserati Classiche Program plays a crucial role in preserving the brand's automotive heritage. It offers exclusive services like the Certification of Authenticity for cars over 20 years old and special series. A committee of experts oversees this process, ensuring each vehicle's originality. The program also provides restoration support and creates replacement parts using advanced technology while maintaining original designs.
Touring Superleggera meticulously restored the Maserati 3500GT to its former glory at their Milan workshop. They collaborated with Maserati Classiche for technical and documentary assistance. Every component, from the chassis to the engine and transmission, was inspected and validated. The bodywork, interior, exterior colours, materials, electrical system, and accessories were also authenticated.
The Maserati 3500GT holds a significant place in the brand's history as its first mass-produced road car. Designed by Carrozzeria Touring, it features an aluminium body on a tubular frame using Superleggera technology. This design limited its weight to 1,300 kg. The six-cylinder engine originated from the 1956 350S race car, offering excellent torque at low speeds.
In 1961, Lucas fuel injection replaced triple Weber carburettors in the 3500GTI model, increasing power to 235 CV. Initially equipped with a four-speed gearbox from ZF, a five-speed option became available in 1960. Front brake discs were introduced as an option in 1959. That year also saw the debut of a spider version designed by Giovanni Michelotti.
