Final Race Of Season 11 Highlights Lost Opportunities For Maserati MSG Racing

The London race concluded with disappointment for Maserati MSG Racing as both Stoffel Vandoorne and Jake Hughes finished outside the points. Despite starting in promising positions, incidents during the race hindered their progress. Vandoorne faced an early setback with front wing damage, while Hughes suffered a puncture that forced him to pit, undoing his earlier gains.

Jake Hughes had a challenging start due to missing practice because of a battery change. Although he managed to qualify in 17th place, he couldn't advance further. Meanwhile, Stoffel Vandoorne showed potential by securing the fourth-fastest time in Group B but was unable to progress past the quarter-finals due to a minor mistake.

Both drivers initially gained positions at the start of the race. However, Vandoorne's race was compromised when he lost his front wing in an early incident. This damage required a pit stop, costing him valuable track position on a circuit known for its overtaking difficulties.

Hughes found himself in a strong position after safety cars brought him into contention for the top ten. Unfortunately, a puncture forced him to pit, dropping him to the back of the grid. Despite post-race penalties affecting other competitors, Maserati MSG Racing couldn't secure points.

Cyril Blais, Team Principal of Maserati MSG Racing, expressed frustration over the season's outcome. "That’s the story of our season: what could have been," he said. The team faced challenges like punctures and damage that hindered their performance despite hard work and glimpses of potential.

Reflections on the Season

Maria Conti, Head of Maserati Corse, reflected on the season's highs and lows. She highlighted victories in Tokyo and Jeddah as significant achievements. Conti emphasised that lessons learned this year will enhance future technology transfers from track to road vehicles.

Jake Hughes shared his thoughts on the season's challenges: "This weekend has been pretty much, in a nutshell, our season capsulated in a weekend." He acknowledged good pace and strategy but lamented being taken out by other cars multiple times this year.

Stoffel Vandoorne described his experience: "It was chaos at the front... everyone was bumping into each other." He noted that despite safety car interventions helping bunch up the field again, they struggled for pace and were involved in messy fights.
