Evasive Motorsports Teams Up With Hyundai For IONIQ 5 N Racecar At Pikes Peak 2025
Evasive Motorsports is collaborating with Hyundai for the 103rd Broadmoor Pikes Peak International Hill Climb on June 22, 2025. This marks Evasive's boldest electric vehicle project yet, as they prepare a 2025 Hyundai IONIQ 5 N for the iconic race. Supported by Hyundai's technology and past achievements, Evasive aims to make a significant impact in the EV class, building on their successful 2022 run with a modified Tesla Model 3.
"Our goal is to break the elusive 10-minute barrier," said Mike Chang, co-founder and CEO of Evasive Motorsports. "We’ve come close in the past and feel it’s far more achievable with the IONIQ 5 N. We’re confident our driver is equipped with the tools and support needed to deliver a strong finish this year."
The team has focused on enhancing the IONIQ 5 N's performance by optimising its chassis, aerodynamics, and reducing weight. The car now boasts 641 horsepower and 568 lb-ft of torque with N Grin Boost activated. Evasive has reduced the vehicle's weight by stripping its interior and using carbon fibre for doors and tailgate, shedding 500 pounds from its original weight.
Voltex Japan contributed custom aero parts like a front lip, side skirts, and a substantial rear wing to ensure downforce during the climb. Krontec air jacks were installed for quick wheel changes without damaging Voltex bodywork. The car will use wide Yokohama racing slicks on lightweight Titan wheels.
Veteran driver Rob Walker returns for this year's race after competing in Evasive's earlier entries from 2013-16. Walker has been using sim racing to refresh his skills for the challenging course. "I have a dedicated sim rig I’ve been using nonstop since I was asked to drive for Evasive again at Pikes Peak," Walker shared.
Walker has transitioned smoothly from gas to electric vehicles since he began racing EVs in 2013. He recently bought an IONIQ 5 N as his daily driver to better understand its dynamics, testing various components like brake pads and tire compounds.
Evasive Motorsports' Journey at Pikes Peak
Evasive Motorsports started their hill-climb journey in 2013 with a supercharged Scion FR-S. They continued with different models over the years, including a Toyota 86 powered by a turbocharged engine that won in 2020. In recent years, they have focused on developing EV performance with their Tesla Model 3.
Tony Kwan, co-founder of Evasive Motorsports, expressed excitement about this year's race: "This is our tenth attempt at Pikes Peak and we’re incredibly proud to have been one of the first tuner shops to compete in the historic event."
