Daimler Truck Introduces New Maintenance Provision Rating Scheme To Improve HGV Workshop Standards

The Maintenance Provision Rating Scheme (MPRS) has been introduced to standardise the assessment of workshop quality and competency across the UK. This initiative, developed by Logistics UK, RHA, CPT, IRTE, SMMT, BVRLA, NFDA, and Daimler Truck UK, is supported by the Office of the Traffic Commissioner, DVSA, and DfT. The scheme aims to elevate industry standards by distinguishing workshops based on their service quality.

After an 18-month pilot phase using Daimler Truck workshops as a benchmark for scoring criteria, the MPRS was officially launched at the Commercial Vehicle Show. The scheme's objective is to enhance commercial vehicle maintenance standards, reduce MOT failures or prohibitions, and improve safety and compliance. By the end of 2025, every Daimler Truck dealer will have an MPRS rating.

The MPRS employs a tiered rating system with levels such as Entry, Bronze, Silver, Gold, and Platinum. These ratings assist commercial vehicle operators in making informed decisions about where to maintain their trucks. Participating workshops can demonstrate their commitment to excellence and gain a competitive edge by improving their facilities and training.

Amy Carter from Daimler Truck UK expressed enthusiasm about the scheme: "As an OEM, Daimler Truck UK has welcomed being involved in the development of the MPRS as we believe it is important for the commercial vehicle industry to be setting new standards. It has needed a consistent, nationwide rating scheme for a long time."

The MPRS encourages workshops to invest in enhancing their services to achieve higher ratings. This investment not only boosts their reputation but also provides customers with measurable network standards. The scheme helps operators make informed decisions regarding fleet maintenance while encouraging dealer investment.

Amy Carter further stated: "We believe the MPRS will help raise the bar in aftersales and, in the longer term, we hope customers start asking workshops for their MPRS ratings and that dealers start promoting their own scores."

Daimler Truck's involvement in developing this scheme highlights its commitment to customer service and compliance. Although they regularly assess their dealer network's standards internally, the MPRS offers an independent benchmark proving high-quality care for customer fleets.

By implementing these ratings across all dealers by 2025, Daimler Truck aims to ensure that customers receive top-tier service when they choose its workshops. The introduction of MPRS marks a significant step towards improving industry standards for commercial vehicle maintenance throughout the UK.
