Dacia Duster Aids Historic Expedition To Uncover WWII Artefacts On Scotland's Rugged Coastline
A recent expedition on Scotland's west coast aimed to uncover World War II artefacts. Led by Monty Halls, a marine conservationist and former Royal Marine, the team used two Dacia Dusters to navigate the challenging terrain. The vehicles transported people and equipment to remote sites, aiding in the search for historical remnants from secret military operations.
The Celtic Dagger Expedition took place from 17 to 24 May. The team discovered munitions and debris from early amphibious training exercises conducted by Commandos and the Special Operations Executive (SOE). These findings provide insight into the preparations for Europe's liberation during WWII.
The expedition's dive operations were groundbreaking, marking the first time relics were surveyed at sites where amphibious landings were rehearsed starting in June 1940. The team employed systematic techniques to locate artefacts buried beneath sand, revealing a rich history of military training activities.
Two Dacia Duster Extreme mild hybrid 130 4x4s played a crucial role in the expedition. Their robust design and 217mm ground clearance allowed them to tackle Scotland's harshest terrains. These SUVs proved essential for transporting supplies and diving gear across difficult-to-reach areas.
Monty Halls praised the Duster's performance: "Everyone who drove the Duster on- or off-road in Scotland was really impressed with its ability to go anywhere and take all our equipment wherever we needed it. The expeditions I lead require the best kit, and the Duster did not disappoint."
Team Composition
The diverse team included a marine archaeologist, a Royal Engineer bomb disposal diver, two marine biologists, and a world-record-holding female powerboat racer. This mix of expertise ensured a comprehensive approach to uncovering historical artefacts during their mission.
Luke Broad, Dacia Brand Director for the UK, expressed satisfaction with Monty's choice of vehicle: "Instead of the typical 4x4 usually associated with this type of expedition, it’s great that Monty chose the Dacia Duster. It’s clear proof that it’s the perfect car for any adventure, near or far."
Dacia has been offering value-for-money vehicles since its relaunch by Renault Group in 2004. Known for reliable and versatile cars like Sandero and Jogger, Dacia continues to be a market leader across Europe. Since launching in the UK in January 2013, over 260,000 vehicles have been sold there.
The expedition successfully highlighted both historical discoveries and modern automotive capabilities. By combining expert leadership with reliable vehicles, significant insights into WWII preparations were gained while showcasing how contemporary technology can aid exploration efforts today.
