Chance Hymas Secures Sixth Place Finish In Challenging Detroit SX 250 Event
Honda HRC Progressive continued its 2025 AMA Supercross journey in Detroit, with Chance Hymas representing the team in the 250SX East class. Despite a late red flag causing a staggered restart, Hymas managed to secure a commendable sixth-place finish. The race was challenging, but he maintained his position well after starting mid-pack.
In the 250SX East Region main event, Hymas had to navigate through the field following a mid-pack start. A red flag halted the race with only seven seconds left, resulting in a staggered restart. Hymas held his ground and finished sixth. Meanwhile, Carson Mumford from Quadlock Honda Racing took the holeshot and finished eighth.
In the absence of Jett and Hunter Lawrence due to injuries, Honda HRC Progressive did not compete in the 450SX class in Detroit. However, Phoenix Racing Honda's Dylan Ferrandis led Honda's efforts with an eighth-place finish. Shane McElrath and Joey Savatgy from Quadlock Honda Racing secured 12th and 13th places respectively.
The cold weather in Detroit saw teams working inside the stadium as snow covered outdoor pits. No FanFest was held due to these conditions. During Friday's Media Day, Chance Hymas participated before hitting the track for practice sessions alongside competitors.
In morning qualifying for 250SX East, Hymas secured eighth place. Carson Mumford followed closely in ninth, while Cullin Park and Henry Miller were 11th and 13th respectively. Ryder Floyd from TiLube Honda rounded out the top 15 qualifiers.
Hymas performed well in heat races, finishing second in 250SX heat 1 to directly qualify for the main event. In heat 2, Mumford took fourth place, Park finished fifth, and Miller claimed sixth. Trevor Colip advanced through the last-chance qualifier.
Upcoming Events
The next round will take place in Arlington, Texas, where FanFest and dealer activation will resume as usual. Chance Hymas expressed optimism about his progress: "Round 2 in Detroit was a step in the right direction. I had a better result in qualifying–another P6 on the night."
Lars Lindstrom, Team Manager of Honda HRC Progressive, praised their truck drivers for ensuring smooth operations despite freezing temperatures: "Chance was solid once again. In a very volatile class, he has been steady and smooth."
