Global Survey Reveals Youth's Keen Interest In Electric Vehicle Future
Nissan Formula E Team has unveiled a global study, conducted with OnePoll, highlighting young people's enthusiasm for electric mobility. The survey involved 6,000 participants aged 8 to 16 from Brazil, Italy, Japan, Mexico, the UK, and the US. This aligns with Nissan's latest campaign, 'Department of Futures', which features children questioning team members about electric vehicles.
More than half of the surveyed children expressed a desire to drive electric cars to help save the environment. Additionally, 68% of respondents consider combating climate change important. These findings are reflected in Nissan's creative content, where young people hold key team members accountable for their promises.
The campaign video showcases children aged 7-10 challenging drivers Oliver Rowland and Sacha Fenestraz and team principal Tommaso Volpe on the future of electric vehicles. This playful yet insightful approach underscores Nissan's commitment to its Ambition 2030 pledge and the introduction of 27 new electrified vehicles by decade's end.
Nissan aims to ensure young people can access the electrified future they desire. The company recognises its role in educating the next generation about eco-friendliness. With nearly half of respondents confused about being 'eco-friendly' and only 30% currently practising it, Nissan sees an opportunity to lead through its Formula E program.
Tommaso Volpe, managing director and team principal of Nissan Formula E Team, stated: "We realize the importance of providing the next generation with the tools to continue fighting climate change through electric mobility. The survey proves the desire of young people to help the environment through their choice of vehicles."
Nissan's Role in Formula E
Nissan debuted in all-electric racing during Season 5 (2018/19) of the ABB FIA Formula E Championship as the first Japanese manufacturer in the series. By Season 7 (2020/21), Nissan committed long-term to Formula E and its Gen3 era from Season 9 (2022/23) through Season 12 (2025/26). In April 2022, Nissan took full ownership of its involvement by acquiring e.dams race team.
In June 2022, Nissan announced it would supply its EV powertrain technology to McLaren Racing for the entire Gen3 era. For Season 10 of the ABB FIA Formula E World Championship, Oliver Rowland and Sacha Fenestraz will drive for Nissan Formula E Team.
Formula E's Sustainable Mission
The ABB FIA Formula E World Championship became the first global sport certified with a net zero carbon footprint from inception in 2020. It invests in certified climate-protecting projects across all race markets to offset emissions each season. All championship cars are powered by electricity, serving as a platform for testing and developing cutting-edge electric technology.
Formula E promotes sustainable mobility in city centres to combat air pollution and mitigate climate change effects. The world's top manufacturers compete on street circuits, showcasing advancements in electric vehicle technology.
On March 28th, ahead of Tokyo's first-ever E-Prix, Nissan reaffirmed its long-term commitment to Formula E by signing up for the Gen4 era until 2030. This move reinforces its Ambition 2030 electrification targets and aims for carbon neutrality across operations and product life cycles by 2050.
Nissan races in Formula E to bring zero-emission vehicle excitement to a global audience while transferring racetrack knowledge to improve customer vehicles. The company's goal is to electrify every new vehicle offering by early 2030s in key markets.
