Walmart Enhances InHome Delivery Service With Chevrolet BrightDrop Electric Vans
Chevrolet's BrightDrop 400 electric vans are being introduced in key U.S. cities this year to enhance Walmart's InHome delivery service. These vans aim to expand the retailer's delivery capabilities, cut carbon emissions, and offer drivers safe and efficient vehicles. Walmart's InHome associates, trained for direct home deliveries, participated in a pilot program with GM to evaluate the BrightDrop 400's performance in real-world conditions.
The pilot program revealed several advantages of the BrightDrop vans. Associates noted that the vans could easily navigate busy streets and dense areas. Automation features such as auto-closing doors improved efficiency and enhanced the overall experience for drivers. The ergonomic design with low steps facilitated easy entry and exit, enabling swift last-mile deliveries.
BrightDrop vans come equipped with advanced safety features like a 360-degree HD Surround Vision camera and blind-zone steering assist. These features ensure driver safety and alertness during operations. The battery range and reliability were also praised by associates who tested the vans in various scenarios, including city driving and customer deliveries.
Sandor Piszar, vice president of GM Envolve, stated, "Our BrightDrop vans are purpose-built to get the job done safely and efficiently while helping businesses like Walmart decarbonize their fleet." This statement highlights GM's commitment to designing vehicles that meet the needs of hardworking drivers delivering goods daily.
Walmart announced plans to extend its InHome delivery service to 62 million households across the nation. By year's end, BrightDrop 400 vans will be deployed in cities such as Austin, Dallas, Denver, Detroit, northwest Arkansas, Orlando, and San Francisco Bay area. This expansion reflects Walmart's strategy of being people-led and tech-powered.
Warren Moore, vice president of Dedicated Delivery at Walmart U.S., expressed enthusiasm about integrating BrightDrop 400 into their fleet. "With a focus on being people-led and tech-powered, we're always looking for ways to enhance the associate experience and provide the best possible service to our customers," he said.
