Volvo Plans Major Electrification |New Vehicle Releases By 2025
Volvo's next two years are set to be eventful, as CEO Jim Rowan and Chief Commercial Officer Bjorn Annwall shared ambitious plans with dealers. Electrification was a key focus, with ten new or updated vehicles planned for production. Some of these models are already known, while others may not be available in all the markets.
Electrification Strategy
Initially aiming for a fully electric lineup by 2030, Volvo revised its strategy. Now, they plan for 90-100% of global sales to consist of electrified vehicles, including EVs and plug-in hybrids. A few hybrid models will address market gaps.

The EX90 is one vehicle on this list. It's Volvo's first three-row, mid-size SUV EV with over 300 miles of range. Already in production and available for pre-order, it is expected later this year. The EX60, based on the SPA3 platform, will replace the XC60 and is available as a plug-in hybrid.
Upcoming Models
The XC40 Recharge will eventually be replaced by the battery-electric EX40. The smaller EX30 is delayed until 2025 for U.S. delivery but is available in Europe despite some issues. The EC40 will take over from the XC40 and C40 Recharge models.

An updated XC90 will be released for the 2025 model year as a PHEV rather than a full electric model like many others on the list. This model aims to maintain Volvo's presence in the hybrid segment.
Potential New Additions
A new Volvo wagon might also join the lineup. The EV60 Cross Country is reportedly in development, though its global availability remains uncertain. Additionally, the ES90 has been teased as Volvo's first EV sedan.
Volvo plans to use electric motors in upcoming PHEVs on the SPA1 platform. These motors aim for 93% efficiency, improving upon their current model's 91%.
Despite stepping back from their initial all-electric goal by 2030, Volvo remains committed to electrification. They have outlined a clear plan and are actively working towards it within two years—a short timeframe considering recent delays and challenges.

Volvo's focus on electrification involves introducing nearly a dozen new or refreshed models within two years while enhancing motor efficiency and expanding their hybrid offerings to meet evolving market demands.
