Volkswagen And Skoda Navigate Mixed Sales In May 2024
In May 2024, Volkswagen and Skoda ranked 10th and 11th among top car manufacturers. Volkswagen reported flat year-on-year (YoY) growth, but its month-on-month (MoM) sales increased by 7%. Conversely, Skoda experienced a 19% YoY sales decline, despite an impressive 12% MoM sales increase. The combined sales of both brands in May 2024 amounted to 6,157 units, compared to 6,833 units in May 2023.
Volkswagen Sales Performance
Volkswagen sold 3,273 units in May 2024, showing no significant change from the 3,286 units sold in May 2023. However, MoM sales rose by 7% compared to the 3,049 units sold in April 2024. Volkswagen currently holds a market share of 0.9%.

The Virtus was Volkswagen's best-selling model in May 2024 with 1,610 units sold, a slight decrease of 1% YoY but a remarkable MoM growth of 36%. The Taigun compact SUV followed with a YoY growth of 5% but an MoM decline of 11%, selling a total of 1,561 units.
Skoda Sales Performance
Skoda's sales dropped by as much as 19% YoY to reach only 2,882 units in May 2024. However, there was a modest MoM growth of 12% compared to the previous month's sales figure of 2,579 units.

The Slavia topped Skoda's sales chart for May with a total of 1,538 units sold. This represented a YoY decline of 9%, but MoM sales improved by an impressive rate of 23%.
The Skoda Kushaq experienced significantly lower demand last month with sales dipping by as much as 31% YoY to just over one thousand units. However, the Kodiaq saw good demand with the seven-seater SUV recording an increase in both YoY and MoM sales at rates of around twenty percent.

Despite the mixed results for both brands in terms of YoY and MoM sales figures, Skoda can expect a boost in sales after its recent price cut. Overall, the automotive industry remains dynamic, and both brands will need to adapt to changing consumer preferences and market conditions to stay ahead in this competitive market.
