Toyota Kentucky's $922 Million Investment To Build Advanced Paint Facility By 2027

Toyota is advancing its operations in Kentucky with a significant $922 million investment. This funding will establish a new state-of-the-art paint facility aimed at boosting efficiency and supporting electrification. The facility, set to open in 2027, will enhance vehicle finish quality while reducing carbon emissions by 30% and cutting water usage by 1.5 million gallons annually.

This initiative aligns with Toyota's broader goal of achieving zero carbon emissions by 2050. The new facility will leverage cutting-edge paint technologies to streamline production, improve accuracy, and offer a wider range of colour options. Kerry Creech, president of Toyota Kentucky, stated, "Not only will our customers get the dynamic and stylish exterior finishes they love, but Toyota’s commitment to advanced paint technologies goes beyond aesthetics."

Toyota Invests $922 Million in Kentucky Facility

The announcement follows an earlier $1.3 billion investment at the Georgetown site for assembling a new three-row battery electric SUV by 2026. Since its inception in 1986, Toyota's investment in Kentucky has surpassed $11 billion, highlighting its dedication to stable employment. "This year alone more than $2 billion is being reinvested in this plant," Creech added.

Toyota Kentucky employs around 10,000 people and assembles popular models like the Camry Hybrid and RAV4 Hybrid. Governor Andy Beshear praised the partnership between Kentucky and Toyota, saying it has been transformative for families across the state over the past four decades. He expressed gratitude for Toyota's continued investment in Kentucky's workforce.

Since 2020, Toyota has announced over $20 billion in investments into U.S. manufacturing to bolster electrification efforts. Increasing battery electric vehicle (BEV) production supports Toyota’s strategy for electrification across its portfolio.

Toyota's Broader Impact

Toyota has been part of the U.S. cultural landscape for over 65 years through its Toyota and Lexus brands and nearly 1,500 dealerships. Employing nearly 48,000 people across the U.S., Toyota has produced over 34 million vehicles at its 11 manufacturing plants.

In North Carolina, Toyota plans to start producing automotive batteries for electrified vehicles by 2025. With more electrified vehicles on the road than any other automaker, Toyota currently offers 30 electrified models.

To inspire future generations towards careers in advanced manufacturing, Toyota launched a tour booking platform at www.TourToyota.com. This allows guests to schedule live tours or explore all plants virtually from anywhere globally.
