Richard Whitehead And Adele Roberts Champion Inclusive Running Event At Olympic Park
Former British athlete Richard Whitehead MBE and broadcaster/DJ Adele Roberts are joining forces to promote diversity through an inclusive running event in East London. The event, named Run to the Future and supported by Nissan, will take place on Sunday, September 15th at Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park in Stratford. Participants can choose between a 2k and a 5k run.
The event is designed to be accessible to everyone, regardless of their ability. Starting and finishing next to the London Stadium, participants can walk, run, roll, or push around the iconic venue that hosted the 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games. Richard and Adele are encouraging people from underrepresented communities to join in.

The Richard Whitehead Foundation will provide trained support runners to assist individuals with disabilities throughout the course. These volunteers will offer holistic support, helping participants overcome challenges and ensuring the event is as inclusive as possible. This initiative aims to remove barriers and make sport accessible to all.
Richard Whitehead emphasised the importance of inclusivity in sports: "Disabled people sometimes don’t feel confident enough to enter sporting events. As a former athlete and distance runner, I feel it's something we should change. Whatever the race, whatever the distance, it's always a chance to give back to the running community and inspire the disability community."
Adele Roberts echoed this sentiment: "Everyone should be comfortable to participate in or attend any sporting event, so we’re aiming to create an inclusive space for the LGBTQ+ community and our allies, family and friends. I can’t wait to take part and see everyone there."
The event will feature two start times: 10:30 am for the 5K run and 12:00 pm for the 2K run. The entry fee is £15, which includes chip-timed results, an event medal, and post-race goodies. Proceeds from the event will go to the Richard Whitehead Foundation.
