Nissan Formula E Team Faces Tough Weekend At Portland E-Prix
Nissan Formula E Team faced a challenging double-header in Portland, missing out on points in both Rounds 13 and 14 of the 2023/24 ABB FIA Formula E World Championship. Caio Collet, stepping in for the unwell Oliver Rowland, made his debut and qualified seventh in Group B. He started his first E-Prix in 14th place, just ahead of teammate Sacha Fenestraz who began in 16th.
Fenestraz ran as high as second during the first race but dropped to 15th after taking his second Attack Mode. Collet finished 18th, ending the team's streak of ten consecutive points finishes. In today's race, starting from 22nd and 14th respectively, Collet used his experience to finish 16th while Fenestraz ended up in 18th place.
Tommaso Volpe, managing director and team principal of Nissan Formula E Team, expressed frustration over not scoring points despite the car's potential. "The car had potential and the team did a good job, but we just didn't quite put everything together," he said. Volpe praised Collet's debut performance, highlighting his quick adaptation and strong races despite finishing positions not reflecting his efforts.
Sacha Fenestraz reflected on the weekend's missed opportunities. "Yesterday our potential was limited by my incident in FP2," he said. "Our strategy was good and I found myself fighting at the front but lost a lot of places late on in the race." He acknowledged higher expectations for today but remained hopeful for a strong finish in London.
Caio Collet shared his experience positively despite challenges. "Race 1 was tough; it was difficult to understand where and how to use the energy to overtake," he said. He felt more comfortable on the second day despite a frustrating qualifying session. "I think we could have been on the edge of the points without the contact and pit stop," he added.
Nissan's Commitment to Formula E

Nissan also supplies its EV powertrain technology to McLaren Racing for the Gen3 era.
In March 2024, Nissan reaffirmed its commitment by signing up for the Gen4 era until 2030, aligning with its Ambition 2030 electrification targets. The automaker aims to electrify all new vehicle offerings by early 2030s in key markets as part of its goal to achieve carbon neutrality by 2050.
