Nissan Formula E Team Gears Up For Season 11 Opener In São Paulo With Strong Driver Line-up
The Nissan Formula E Team is set to begin the GEN3 Evo era this weekend as the 2024/25 ABB FIA Formula E World Championship starts in São Paulo, Brazil. Oliver Rowland aims to continue his impressive performance with Nissan, joined by Norman Nato. Last season, Rowland's remarkable double overtake at the final corner secured a podium finish for the team in São Paulo.
Rowland's performance was one of many highlights in Season 10, where he achieved podium finishes seven times, including victories in Misano and London. This will be the third time the series visits Brazil, with the São Paulo Street Circuit hosting each event. The race on Saturday will occur at Anhembi Sambadrome, known for its Carnival of São Paulo.
Nissan has maintained a strong presence in Brazil for 24 years and plans to expand further. In 2023, aligning with its global Ambition 2030 plan, Nissan announced an investment of up to R$ 2.8 billion from 2023-2025 to produce two new SUVs at its facility. This commitment underscores Nissan's dedication to growth in the Brazilian market.
The São Paulo circuit features a 2.93-kilometre track with 11 turns and three long straights followed by heavy braking zones. These offer prime overtaking opportunities into Turns 1, 4, and 7. Track action begins on Friday at 16:30 (UTC-3), with qualifying on Saturday at 09:40 before the race at 14:00.
Oliver Rowland expressed confidence ahead of the weekend despite not excelling on such tracks typically. "Since pre-season testing in Madrid it’s all been about optimizing the car to ensure the best possible performance this weekend," he said. He believes a good qualifying position could lead to a strong result for the team.
Norman Nato shared his excitement about starting a new season in December, despite past challenges at this venue. "Testing in Madrid went well but it’s always very different in race conditions," he noted. Nato is eager to see how they compare against competitors and looks forward to learning more once on track.
