Maserati MSG Racing Concludes FIA Formula E Season 10 In London
Maserati MSG Racing concluded the 10th season of the FIA Formula E World Championship at the 2024 London E-Prix, facing a challenging finale at the ExCeL Circuit. Despite a promising start, the team encountered setbacks that impacted their performance.
Maximilian Günther showcased strong potential in Qualifying, securing a front-row position after defeating Mitch Evans and Jean-Eric Vergne. However, he lost out to Jaguar’s Nick Cassidy in the final duel. Starting from second place, Max aimed for a points finish while Jehan Daruvala began from 11th.
In the race, Max slipped to third on lap one but maintained his position within the top ranks. Jehan battled hard with Antonio Felix da Costa and managed to gain 10th place before an accident on lap seven forced him to retire due to extensive damage.
Max faced further difficulties as he lost ground to newly crowned champion Pascal Wehrlein and dropped from podium contention on lap seven. After taking both Attack Modes early, Max held seventh but sustained terminal damage following contact with Cassidy at Turn 20.
Despite these challenges, Maserati MSG Racing ended the season with 81 points, finishing eighth in the World Teams’ Championship. The team celebrated highlights such as a victory at the 2024 Tokyo E-Prix and nine top ten finishes throughout the season.
Driver Reflections
Maximilian Günther reflected on the weekend: "We gave it everything we had this weekend. We showed some great performance. Race One was perfect until a few laps before the end when we had the gearbox failure, and today as well, we did a fantastic Qualifying despite all of the difficulties around changing the gearbox."
Jehan Daruvala also shared his thoughts: "Looking back, I think it’s clear that we could have scored a significant amount of points as a team this weekend. It’s disappointing, but there are positives to take – I qualified well today, drove aggressively in both races, and could have been in the top 10."
Team Leadership Insights
Cyril Blais, Deputy Team Principal of Maserati MSG Racing, expressed his pride in the team's efforts: "This is not the end to the season that we deserved. We had strong pace this weekend, and we deserved points but racing is hard, and the harsh reality is that we’re coming back empty handed."
Giovanni Sgro, Head of Maserati Corse, highlighted both achievements and challenges: "Despite the good qualifying, today was an unlucky day; we know motorsport can be unpredictable. After an intense year full of memorable moments, Maserati has ended its second season in Formula E in eighth place: this result reflects a year that was most of all exciting."
Maserati's Future Plans
Maserati's presence in Formula E is part of their strategy to embrace new mobility eras with their Folgore electric series. By 2025, all Maserati models will offer full-electric versions and aim for an all-electric range by 2028.
The team looks forward to recharging during the offseason and returning stronger for Season 11. Their focus remains on pushing boundaries and achieving excellence in future competitions.
Maserati MSG Racing continues to be a key player in Formula E since joining as one of its founding teams. They promote sustainability principles while striving for technical innovation and excellence.
The dedication shown by every team member up to the final lap is commendable. As they prepare for next season, they carry forward lessons learned and experiences gained from this challenging yet rewarding journey.
