Maruti Invicto Vs Toyota Innova Hycross: Maruti Faces Unexpected Sales Setback

Maruti Suzuki, India's leading car manufacturer, has faced a surprising setback with its latest offering, the Maruti Invicto. Despite the company's dominant market position, the sales figures for this premium MPV have been disappointing.

Maruti Suzuki has a global partnership with Toyota, allowing both companies to share technologies. This collaboration has enabled Maruti to introduce several fuel-efficient hybrid cars using Toyota's hybrid technology. Consequently, Maruti has maintained a strong market share in India.

Maruti Innova s Sales Disappoint in Premium Segment

Under this partnership, Maruti launched the Toyota Innova Hycross under its own brand name as the Maruti Invicto. The vehicle is a seven-seater MPV positioned in the premium segment. It was anticipated to compete robustly with Toyota's Innova Hycross.

Despite high expectations, the sales figures for the Maruti Invicto have been underwhelming. In May, only 193 units were sold, marking the lowest sales for any Maruti product. This trend has been consistent over the past six months.

Toyota's Success with Innova Hycross

In contrast, Toyota has seen significant success with its Innova Hycross. In May alone, Toyota sold 8,548 units of the Innova Hycross. Over the past six months, Toyota has sold a total of 51,261 units of this model.

Toyota Innova Hycross 51,261
Maruti Invicto 2,097

Price Disparity and Market Positioning

The low sales of the Maruti Invicto could be attributed to its pricing. The Maruti Invicto is priced at Rs. 25.21 lakh, whereas the Toyota Innova Hycross is available at Rs. 19.7 lakh. This significant price difference may be influencing consumer choices.

Other Low-Selling Models from Maruti

The Maruti Invicto is currently the lowest-selling car in Maruti's portfolio. Following it is the Jimny, with only 274 units sold in May. The Ciaz ranks third in low sales with 730 units sold in the same month.

DriveSpark Thinks

The Maruti Invicto targets a specific segment of buyers, which could explain its low sales figures. Introducing more variants might help boost its sales. However, given the current market dynamics and pricing strategies, it remains to be seen how Maruti will address these challenges.
