Mahindra Gears Up For Electric XUV 3XO EV Launch By Year-End
Mahindra is gearing up to launch the all-electric XUV 3XO EV by the end of this year. Internally codenamed S240, this new model will be positioned below the XUV400 EV. Series production is expected to commence by November, according to Autocar India.
Production and Launch Details
The company has set a monthly production target of around 1,500-1,800 units for the XUV 3XO EV. This figure is modest considering its mass-market appeal. The overall plan includes producing approximately 12,000 units of the XUV 3XO across all fuel types—petrol, diesel, and electric.

Late last year, reports emerged about the development of this new electric SUV based on the former XUV300, now rebranded as XUV 3XO. Initially slated for a mid-2024 launch, it appears that the release has been delayed.
Battery and Features
The XUV 3XO EV will be powered by a 34.5kWh battery pack, similar to the one used in lower-spec variants of the XUV400 EV. While specific details about its range or electric motor specifications are not yet available, it is expected to carry forward most features from its internal combustion engine (ICE) counterpart.
In terms of design, the XUV 3XO EV will closely resemble its ICE version but will include some unique EV-specific design elements. The interior and equipment are also likely to be largely identical to those found in the standard XUV 3XO.
Pricing Strategy
Mahindra aims to price the XUV 3XO EV more competitively than the XUV400 EV. Expected prices range from Rs 15 lakh to Rs 17 lakh, making it about Rs 2 lakh cheaper at the top-end compared to the XUV400 EV. This aggressive pricing strategy aims to give Mahindra a competitive edge against rivals like Tata Nexon EV.

The launch was initially planned for mid-2024 but has been pushed back. Despite this delay, Mahindra remains optimistic about capturing a larger market share with this new model.
The company hopes that the more affordable pricing and updated features will help boost sales, especially since the XUV400 EV did not perform well despite several updates.
This new electric SUV is expected to retain almost all features seen on its standard ICE counterpart while offering an eco-friendly alternative for consumers.
As Mahindra prepares for this significant launch, they aim to address previous shortcomings and offer a more appealing product in the growing electric vehicle market.
The production target reflects cautious optimism given current market conditions and past performance of similar models. This strategic move could potentially position Mahindra as a stronger competitor in India's burgeoning electric vehicle sector. While the upcoming months will reveal how well Mahindra's latest offering fares against established competitors in this rapidly evolving market.
