Kia Launches New Electric Purpose-Built Vehicles In Europe, Announces Key Partnerships
Kia has showcased its new Platform Beyond Vehicle (PBV) concept at the IAA Hanover, marking its European debut. These PBVs are set to revolutionise the light commercial vehicle (LCV) market with a range of purpose-built electric vehicles (EVs). The PV5 and PV7 concepts were among the models displayed at the Kia stand.
At IAA Hanover, Kia announced that every PBV will come with a seven-year/150,000 km warranty. This ensures customers can rely on their vehicles for daily tasks without concerns about reliability. The production version is expected to be introduced in summer 2025.

Kia has partnered with Geotab to enhance fleet management solutions. This collaboration aims to integrate advanced data solutions, innovative systems, and route optimisation. Pierre-Martin Bos, Director PBV at Kia Europe, stated, "We are partnering with Geotab because we share a commitment to providing best-in-class fleet management solutions."
The PBVs will feature a range of onboard systems designed to maximise convenience. These include an Android OS-based head unit, AI-powered voice assistant, predictive maintenance, and smart routing. Digital Key 2.0 will provide remote access to the vehicle.
Kia PBVs will utilise the Kia Charge network, offering access to over 780,000 charging points across 28 European countries. They also support the IONITY network with more than 4,100 charging points in 24 European countries. Ultra-fast charging allows a PBV to charge from 10% to 80% in under 30 minutes.
The vehicles will offer both AC and DC fast charging options for better optimisation and lower costs. Additionally, Kia Plug & Charge simplifies the charging process by initiating it as soon as the cable is plugged in.
Technical Collaboration for Refrigerated Vehicles
Kia announced a technical collaboration with Petit Forestier Group for developing refrigerated versions of PBVs. Petit Forestier Group brings over 117 years of experience in refrigerated vehicle solutions. This partnership aims to leverage their expertise in cold chain logistics.
Marc Hedrich, President of Kia in Europe, emphasised the significance of this approach: "While this approach is not a first for electric passenger cars, it’s certainly the first time we see it for LCV." He added that this strategy would deliver better accessibility and lower running costs.
Maximising Productivity
Kia's PBVs are highly adaptable with various seat layouts and dimensions. They offer best-in-class cargo volume and loading height to maximise productivity. The company is working with multiple partners to develop customised PBVs for specific needs such as racking and wheelchair-accessible mobility.
For B2B customers, Kia will provide a dedicated dealer network with right-sized workshops and extended opening hours. Expert staff trained specifically for B2B needs will help optimise vehicle usage and uptime.
User Experience Enhancements
The multi-tasking cockpit in Kia PBVs can be transformed into a mobile workspace when stationary. Customers can enjoy features like an AI-powered human-machine interface and multiple storage spaces. The live data generated during operation can be used for analysing driving patterns and managing fleets efficiently.
Kia Connect will bring tailored customer solutions optimised for specific business needs. Access to the Android app market allows customers to add desired apps directly to their vehicles.
Future Prospects
Kia's Plan S strategy includes expanding its line-up of electric vehicles through these PBVs built on four pillars: Drive, Charge, Connect, and Work. The company aims to disrupt logistics and mobility by offering better accessibility and higher volumes at lower running costs.
The innovative BEV platform developed by Kia can adapt to different wheelbase lengths, accommodating various vehicle sizes and body types. This flexibility ensures superior driveability and manoeuvrability in both urban areas and open roads.
Pierre-Martin Bos highlighted their focus on customer needs: "Our focus is on customer needs, to provide a solution for each use case." He added that they aim to ensure business continuity while optimising vehicle uptime through predictive maintenance capabilities.
