INEOS Automotive Showcases Versatile Grenadier Prototypes At Goodwood Festival
The INEOS Grenadier's adaptability was showcased at the Goodwood Festival of Speed. Various prototypes highlighted its versatility, including a portal-axled Grenadier Quartermaster and Station Wagon by LeTech, a short-bed Quartermaster pick-up dubbed 'Shortermaster,' a V8-powered station wagon, an eight-seater Safari conversion, and the first FIA-compliant rally-ready Grenadier.
The portal-axled Grenadier Quartermaster and Station Wagon were modified by LeTech GmbH & Co KG. These vehicles featured raised chassis with portal axles and offset wheel hubs, increasing ground clearance to 514mm and wading depth to 1050mm. Larger off-road tyres completed these modifications.
INEOS Automotive CEO Lynn Calder stated, "The Grenadier’s body-on-frame chassis has already proven itself to be incredibly versatile, so as we look to future product and limited editions, we want to keep innovating. As our new brand campaign states, the Grenadier is Built For More, and over the next few years we will be showing just what that means."
The Shortermaster was developed by INEOS engineers at the Hambach plant in France. This double-cab pick-up has a wheelbase of 2922mm, which is 305mm shorter than the standard Quartermaster. The rear seats were moved forward to maximise load bay capacity.
The V8-powered station wagon was created by Magna’s engineering apprentices. They replaced the original BMW 3.0-litre straight-six engine with a GM 6.2-litre V8 unit producing 317kW and 625Nm. This required re-engineering of engine mounts, electrics, cooling systems, exhaust manifold, transmission bearings, and heat shields.
INEOS Kavango from Botswana converted a Quartermaster Pick-Up into an eight-seat Safari game-viewer. This vehicle features three tiered rows of seats for better visibility, bespoke front and side protection bars, and alloy wheels with off-road tyres for challenging safari terrains.
Rally-Ready Innovation
Buzz Special Vehicles displayed the first FIA-compliant rally-ready Grenadier at Goodwood. This vehicle is set to compete in the 2025 World Rally-Raid Championship. It features an upgraded BMW 3.0-litre straight-six engine producing 260kW and 550Nm, sports exhaust system, race suspension from R53 outfit, uprated brakes, bespoke alloy wheels, full internal roll-cage, racing bucket seats, carbon interior door panels and roof vents.
The portal axle modification has practical applications; similar vehicles were recently delivered to the fire brigade in Mühlheim an der Ruhr in Germany.
About INEOS Automotive
INEOS Automotive was formed in 2017 when Chairman Jim Ratcliffe saw a market gap for a robust 4X4 meeting modern compliance standards. The company launched the INEOS Grenadier in 2022—a global 4X4 combining British design with German engineering rigour for top-tier off-road capability and reliability.
A double-cab pick-up variant called the Quartermaster followed in 2023. In February 2024, INEOS introduced the Fusilier line offering all-electric and range-extender electric powertrains.
INEOS Automotive is part of INEOS Group Holdings S.A., which employs 26,000 people across various sectors globally.
The Goodwood Festival of Speed provided an excellent platform for showcasing these innovative prototypes that underline INEOS's commitment to versatility and innovation in automotive engineering.
