Hyundai Motor Group Strengthens Leadership With Key Executive Appointments For 2024

Hyundai Motor Group has unveiled its executive appointments for 2024, aiming to bolster its growth and prepare for global business challenges. The announcement includes 239 executives from its affiliates, with 73 from Hyundai Motor Company, 43 from Kia Corporation, and 20 from Hyundai Mobis Co. These appointments reflect the Group's performance-based strategy to leverage business momentum achieved in 2024.

The Group is enhancing its leadership pool by promoting senior executives, with 53 promotions focusing on key functions. This move aims to drive change and innovation within the organisation. Jaehoon Chang, currently President and CEO of Hyundai Motor Company, will become Vice Chair of Hyundai Motor Group in January 2025. Chang will lead the Corporate Planning Office and Automotive Division, optimising strategies and investing in future businesses.

Hyundai Motor Group Announces 2024 Appointments

Jose Muñoz was appointed as Hyundai Motor Company's first non-Korean CEO in November. Following this, several executives were promoted due to their significant contributions to the Group's record performance. Seung Jo Lee becomes Executive Vice President for his role as CFO and CSO, exceeding financial targets and establishing the Hyundai Way 2030 strategy.

Zayong Koo is now Executive Vice President at Hyundai Motor Company. His efforts in improving credit ratings and leading the Initial Public Offering of Hyundai Motor India Limited were pivotal. At Kia Corporation, Seung Jun Kim has been promoted to Senior Vice President and CFO, succeeding Woo Jeong Joo, who moves on to become CEO of Hyundai Engineering Co., Ltd.

The Group is committed to developing innovative technologies to accelerate global electrification. Chang Hwan Kim leads the Electrification Energy Solutions Tech Unit as Executive Vice President, overseeing technology development across energy sectors like batteries and hydrogen. Dong Hee Han also becomes Executive Vice President, focusing on powertrain technologies including internal combustion engines and electrified propulsion systems.

Hyundai Rotem Co.'s Jeong Yeob Lee is promoted to Executive Vice President as Head of Defense Solutions division for securing large-scale overseas orders. These promotions aim to maintain momentum and strengthen long-term competitiveness while driving future growth.

Diversity and Inclusion Initiatives

The Group has made strides in diversity by promoting 11 female executives this year. These roles relate to customer value innovation areas such as branding, IT, new businesses, and strategy. Sujin Ryu becomes Senior Vice President at Hyundai Card for her contributions to enhancing brand value through her understanding of branding and global capabilities.

A diverse approach has been adopted since announcing its 2025 business strategy. The Group focuses on advancing talent trajectory by elevating candidates in vehicle development areas like basic performance, electronic control, robotics, electrification, and hydrogen.

Leadership Culture Transformation

The Group continues transforming its leadership culture by appointing exceptional talent in R&D areas. Notably, 64% of new executive appointees are in their forties. Promoted individuals include Sihyun Joo (Robotics Intelligence Software Team), Mu Shin Kwak (eP Project Group), and Kookil Han (Hydrogen & Fuel Cell Engineering Design Group 2) as Vice Presidents.

The latest appointments are effective January 2025, aiming to enhance organisational agility amid an unpredictable global business environment. The Group remains committed to recruiting exceptional individuals capable of shaping future business transformation.
