Hyundai Maintains Championship Lead Entering Penultimate Round Of IMPC Season At Indianapolis
Hyundai is leading the TCR Manufacturers’ Championship as the 2024 IMSA Michelin Pilot Challenge (IMPC) season nears its end. The No. 33 and No. 76 Hyundai Elantra N TCR drivers are in second and third place in the Drivers’ Championship standings. Live coverage of the race will be available on Peacock on Saturday, September 21, starting at 1:05 p.m. EDT.
Hyundai Motor America (HMA) has consistently secured podium finishes throughout the 2024 IMPC season. This performance has given them a 60-point advantage over their closest rival in the Manufacturers’ Championship. As they head to Indianapolis Motor Speedway (IMS) for the penultimate round, HMA aims to maintain this momentum and clinch their sixth consecutive TCR Manufacturers’ Championship.
At IMS, Hyundai drivers occupy three of the top four spots in the Drivers’ Championship. Harry Gottsacker and Robert Wickens, co-drivers of the No. 33 Hyundai Elantra N TCR, are currently second. Close behind are Preston Brown and Denis Dupont in third place with the No. 76 car, followed by Mason Filippi and Mark Wilkins in fourth with the No. 98 car.
The ninth round of the IMPC schedule is set for Saturday, September 21, with a two-hour race starting at 1:05 p.m. EDT. The Indianapolis Motor Speedway features a challenging 2.439-mile, 14-turn road circuit that will test all competitors.
In their last appearance at IMS, Hyundai achieved a double podium finish. Harry Gottsacker and Robert Wickens secured second place in the No. 33 car, while Mason Filippi and Mark Wilkins took third in the No. 98 car. This performance was pivotal for Gottsacker and Wickens as they claimed their first IMPC Drivers’ Championship as a team.
Hyundai Hope On Wheels Initiative
In 2024, Hyundai Hope On Wheels committed to donating $100 for each lap led by a Hyundai Elantra N TCR during every race of the season. So far, this initiative has raised over $22,000 to support childhood cancer research through eight events this year.

Hyundai's Economic Impact
Hyundai Motor America provides U.S. consumers with a diverse range of vehicles including cars, SUVs, and electrified options while supporting Hyundai Motor Company’s vision of Progress for Humanity. Their operations in North America include headquarters in California and manufacturing plants like Hyundai Motor Manufacturing Alabama.
Their economic contributions are significant; according to a recent report, they add $20.1 billion annually to the U.S economy and create around 190,000 jobs through various operations including those of their independent dealers.
The upcoming race at Indianapolis Motor Speedway is crucial for both manufacturers' and drivers' standings as teams aim to solidify their positions before concluding at Road Atlanta next month.
