Hyundai Creta EV: Expected Features, Pricing, And Launch Details

Hyundai is gearing up to enter the mainstream electric vehicle (EV) market in India with the launch of the Creta EV. The increasing number of test mule sightings suggests that the launch could be closer than anticipated. The Creta will compete with rivals such as MG ZS EV, Mahindra XUV400, and the upcoming Tata Curvv EV.

Hyundai's Previous Attempt at Electric Mobility

Previously, Hyundai introduced the Kona EV in India, but its premium price tag limited its impact on the Indian electric mobility scene. In contrast, Tata Motors found success with the Nexon EV. This time, Hyundai aims to capitalize on the popularity of the Creta nameplate, India's best-selling compact SUV, for greater market penetration.

Design and Features of the Upcoming Hyundai Creta EV

The exterior design of the Creta EV will share many similarities with its internal combustion engine (ICE) counterpart launched earlier this year.

However, there will be design differences to establish distinct visual identities, such as a closed-off grille and dedicated bumpers. The aerodynamic wheel design should contribute to reduced air drag and increased range.

Inside, the Creta EV will feature some elements not found in the more expensive Kona EV. For example, it will have a futuristic steering wheel with four dots replacing the Hyundai logo, similar to Ioniq cars.

The gear lever has been moved to the steering column, and while both 10.2-inch screens may resemble those in ICE Creta models, they might have a unique UI with more of an 'Ioniq' feel.

Powertrain and Performance

The Creta EV is expected to have around 50 kWh of battery capacity to compete with its arch-rival MG ZS EV. However, Hyundai may offer a smaller 40 kWh battery option for a lower entry-level price tag.

Recent spy shots indicate that the Creta EV will only come in a single-motor front-wheel-drive layout and could boast a claimed range of 500 km on a single charge with DC fast charging capabilities.

In terms of performance, the electric version is likely to offer quicker acceleration than its ICE counterpart due to instant torque availability from an electric motor. The sportier Creta N Line claims a 0-100 km/h time of 8.9 seconds; however, the Creta EV might be even faster.

Convenience and Pricing

With Hyundai's extensive dealer network and familiarity with ICE Cretas, owners can expect a great experience from their Creta EVs. A centrally located front charging port adds convenience for various charging scenarios without much parking planning required.

The upcoming Hyundai Creta EV is expected to cost around Rs 5 lakh more than their ICE counterparts. However, base E and EX trims are unlikely to be offered in an electric version; thus, anticipate a starting price of around Rs 18 lakh (Ex-showroom).
