Cadillac Formula 1 Team To Debut In 2026 Under General Motors' Leadership
General Motors (GM) and TWG Global have reached a preliminary agreement with Formula 1 to introduce a Cadillac team in 2026. This move marks Cadillac as the first new team since 2016, becoming the eleventh on the grid. GM is also developing an F1 power unit, aiming for Cadillac to become a "full works" team by the decade's end, producing its own vehicles and power units.
Cadillac's entry into Formula 1 will not only enhance its brand visibility but also showcase GM's technological prowess to a global audience. The innovations developed for F1 will aid GM's efforts in advancing transportation technology, focusing on electrification, powertrains, software, and internal combustion engines. This initiative highlights GM’s commitment to pushing technological boundaries.

Mark Reuss, President of GM, expressed enthusiasm about joining the prestigious motorsport series. He stated, "As the pinnacle of motorsports, F1 demands boundary-pushing innovation and excellence. It’s an honor for General Motors and Cadillac to join the world’s premier racing series, and we’re committed to competing with passion and integrity to elevate the sport for race fans around the world."
Dan Towriss, CEO of TWG Global’s motorsports division, shared excitement about partnering with GM in this venture. He remarked, "We're excited to partner with General Motors in bringing a dynamic presence to Formula 1. Together, we’re assembling a world-class team that will embody American innovation and deliver unforgettable moments to race fans around the world."
The involvement of Mario Andretti as a director on the team's board adds significant value. Andretti commented on his enduring passion for F1: "My first love was Formula 1 and now – 70 years later – the F1 paddock is still my happy place. I’m absolutely thrilled with Cadillac, Formula 1, Mark Walter, and Dan Towriss." His participation underscores the American influence in this global sport.
Since announcing their bid in January 2023, Cadillac Formula 1 has assembled an experienced team focusing on aerodynamics, chassis development, software engineering, and vehicle dynamics simulation. Their operations span across Fishers (Indiana), Charlotte (North Carolina), Warren (Michigan), and Silverstone (England).
Building on Racing Heritage
GM boasts decades of racing success with over 3,000 wins and more than 100 driver and manufacturer championships. This rich history supports their ambitious plans for Cadillac in F1. The partnership between GM and TWG Global also extends beyond F1; TWG Global owns Andretti Global, Wayne Taylor Racing, and Spire Motorsports.
This strategic move into Formula 1 represents a significant step for GM and Cadillac as they aim to demonstrate their engineering expertise on a global stage while contributing valuable innovations to future transportation technologies.
