Alexander Bilgeri, Vice President of Corporate Communications at BMW Group, emphasised the importance of sustainability and circularity in their corporate strategy. He stated, "Sustainability and circularity – from the procurement of materials in the supply chain and the manufacturing process, through the product use phase and post-life – are not only core principals of BMW Group’s corporate strategy, but also key factors which will support the future success of our company."

The event will also highlight URBAN-X's work with startups in climate technology. Johan Schwind and Sarah Schappert will discuss initiatives with partners like Dollaride and itselectric. Dr. Guldner will lead a conversation on hydrogen energy's role in the U.S., joined by experts Dr. Lewis Fulton and Dr. Jason Munster.

BMW plans to launch its first hydrogen-powered production model by 2028 after successful tests with the BMW iX5 Hydrogen pilot fleet globally. The company views hydrogen fuel cell vehicles as complementary to battery electric vehicles (BEVs) and plug-in hybrids (PHEVs). This approach supports diverse powertrain technologies alongside traditional internal combustion engines (ICEs).

The development of hydrogen infrastructure is crucial for its adoption in commercial vehicles and passenger cars. BMW is collaborating with partners to create sustainable hydrogen supply chains by fostering demand for low-carbon production facilities.

Infrastructure Development for Hydrogen Mobility

BMW advocates for supportive frameworks from governments and investors to promote early-stage hydrogen mobility adoption. By enhancing refueling infrastructure alongside battery electric vehicle charging networks, they aim to establish fuel cell electric vehicles (FCEVs) as a viable option.

The company seeks regional projects to advance hydrogen infrastructure through collaborative efforts. These initiatives aim to make FCEVs an integral part of future mobility solutions.

Sustainability Efforts Across Operations

Sustainability is central to BMW Group’s strategic direction across all operations—from administration to sales. The company was a pioneer in appointing an environmental officer over 50 years ago. It aims to reduce CO2 emissions per vehicle by 40% by 2030 through technological innovations.

Redwood Materials representatives will discuss their partnership with BMW North America for recycling lithium-ion batteries from various vehicle models in the U.S., including MINI and Rolls-Royce brands.

Global Presence of BMW Group

The BMW Group operates globally with brands like MINI, Rolls-Royce, and Motorrad under its umbrella. It has over 30 production sites worldwide and a sales network spanning more than 140 countries.

In America since 1975, BMW has expanded its operations significantly. The South Carolina plant is a global hub for assembling X models like X3 through X7 Sports Activity Vehicles.

The company's long-term success relies on responsible actions and efficient resource management throughout its supply chain and product lifecycle.

BWM's Climate Week NYC experience will extend online via social media partnerships with "We Don't Have Time," featuring interviews with thought leaders starting September 27.
