ADAS Misuse: Driver Seen Resting On 3rd Row Seat Of Mahindra XUV700
In 2021, Mahindra made massive leaps in the industry when it launched the XUV 700 with ADAS tech on the top-spec offerings. In the first few months of the launch, bookings grew to the point that people were waiting for a year or two to take delivery of their vehicles.
However, soon after the launch of the vehicle, we started to see the ADAS tech being misused. A video related to one such incident was recently released by Autojournal India's social media pages. However, the whereabouts of the filming of this video are unclear.

In the video, an XUV700 is seen driving on a highway, its driver chatting on the phone while sitting on the rear seats. Although the video doesn't specify the speed, the SUV is moving quickly. The driver has engaged the Adaptive Cruise Control and Lane Keep Assist features.
While the ADAS tech in the Mahindra XUV700 is doing a good job at keeping the car on the road without any incidents, the model sports Level-2 ADAS tech and this technology requires the driver's attention even though the ADAS are active.
The Mahindra XUV700 comes in three engine choices; Two diesel engines measuring 2.2 litres and one 2.0 litre petrol engine. All these engine options can be accompanied by a manual or an automatic transmission, except for the base diesel engine with 152bhp.
That being said, the standard 2.2-litre diesel engine in the Mahindra XUV700 puts out 182.4bhp and 450Nm of torque, whereas the 2.0-litre petrol engine in the XUV700 delivers 197.2bhp and 380Nm of torque.

In terms of dimensions, the XUV700 is just the right size, neither too big for Indian roads nor too small for Indian families. In terms of numbers, the XUV700 measures 4,695mm long, 1,890mm wide, and sports a wheelbase of 2,829mm.
Thoughts About ADAS Misuse In India
Being one of the cars with Level-2 ADAS, the Mahindra XUV700 quickly appealed to the masses. Though this feature was introduced providing extra ease and safety to the passengers and driver, many people continue to misuse this tech in India.
In fact, some drivers are not fully aware of what ADAS does and such drivers start over-relying on ADAS as seen in this video. This can be very dangerous to other road users as well.
