2024 Volkswagen ID.4 Electric SUV Secures Top 3 Spot In American-Made Index
Volkswagen of America, Inc. has announced that the 2024 Volkswagen ID.4 electric SUV has secured the third spot on the Cars.com 2024 American-Made Index®. This marks a significant rise from its sixth-place position in 2023. The index evaluates vehicles based on factors such as final assembly location, percentage of U.S. and Canadian parts, and the number of U.S. assembly employees.
The ID.4, built on Volkswagen’s MEB electric vehicle architecture, combines the benefits of a purpose-built EV with the brand's traditional performance, design, and value. All ID.4 models sold in the U.S. have been assembled in Chattanooga, Tennessee since the 2023 model year. The Chattanooga plant also produces the Atlas and Atlas Cross Sport models.

Volkswagen has invested over $4.3 billion in its Chattanooga assembly plant since 2008, demonstrating a strong commitment to the local economy and community growth. Pablo Di Si, President and CEO of Volkswagen of America, expressed pride in the facility and its recognition by Cars.com.
"We are incredibly proud of our world-class assembly facility in Chattanooga. Having the ID.4 recognized as one of the most American-made vehicles by Cars.com validates our commitment to Chattanooga and the 5,500 dedicated Volkswagen team members who make our operations there run," said Di Si.
The localization of the ID.4 has yielded positive results for Volkswagen, with the model accounting for 7.5% of total Volkswagen vehicle sales in the first quarter of 2024. The MSRP for the 2024 ID.4 starts at $39,735 for 62 kWh models and $44,875 for 82 kWh models, with a destination fee of $1,425.
All MY24 Volkswagen ID.4 SUV models are eligible for a full $7,500 Federal Tax Credit when purchased and placed into service in 2024 by qualifying buyers. This makes the ID.4 an affordable option for American drivers, comparable in price to traditional compact SUVs.
Volkswagen’s Chattanooga plant plays a crucial role in its U.S. operations. Since its inception in 2008, Volkswagen has invested heavily in this facility to support local economic vitality and community development.
