Toyota To Launch Ertiga Based Rumion MPV In September - Details And More
A few years before, Toyota and Maruti Suzuki had joined forces for a badge-swapping partnership. Under this union, the car makers will rebrand their popular models and sell them in their partner's name.
We've seen this with the Baleno - Glanza swap, Grand Vitara - HyRyder swap, Brezza - Urban Cruiser swap, and the latest Innova HyCross - Invicto swap. This collaboration is about leveraging each other's strengths and creating a win-win situation for both brands.

According to a recent report by AutoCar, Toyota plans to launch the Maruti Ertiga-based Rumion MPV in India around September this year. Toyota is already selling Rumion in markets like South Africa, and Maruti Suzuki will manufacture the cars for Toyota.
Rumion was launched in South Africa in October 2021. After its success in South Africa, the Rumion MPV is set to make its way to the Indian market. Toyota has already filed a trademark for the Rumion name in India, indicating its plans for an upcoming launch.

With the addition of the Rumion, this will be the fourth MPV in Toyota's lineup for India. The current lineup includes popular models like the Innova Crysta, Innova Hycross, and Vellfire. Vellfire is also about to get a major upgrade in the coming days.
The MPV has a ditto resemblance to the Ertiga sold in India, except for the front grille, alloy wheels, and Toyota badges. The interior is identical to the Ertiga, with the same dashboard layout and features.

The model sold in South Africa is only offered in an all-black interior, opposite to the beige interiors of Ertiga. The India-bound Rumion is said to have a similar interior, identical to the Maruti Suzuki counterpart.
The Rumion will house the same 1.5-litre petrol engine that produces 103bhp and 137Nm of torque in the Ertiga. The powertrain might get paired with a 5-speed manual or a 6-speed torque converter automatic gearbox.

We can also expect a CNG variant post the launch, and like Ertiga, the Rumion will be made available in the 8-seater configuration. As of now, price details are not revealed, but we can expect a price range similar to its direct rival's price.
Thoughts On Toyota Rumion
Toyota's decision to launch this MPV reflects the growing demand in the Indian market for these cars. Even though it doesn't offer much for the customer other than providing a similar buying option, the swap deal will help Toyota to capitalize on the popularity and success of the Ertiga.
