2023 Toyota Innova Hycross Likely To Sport Hybrid Engine, ADAS, Sunroof & More
Toyota recently stopped accepting bookings for the diesel variant of the Toyota Innova Crysta and issued an official statement clarifying that the bookings were temporarily stopped due to excessive demand.

However, within a few days, new reports have surfaced stating that the diesel engine in the Toyota Innova Crysta has failed emission testing in the country and the MUV has been temporarily discontinued as well.

Though in a bid to boost the sales of Toyota Innova Crysta, Toyota launched a limited edition variant of the MUV based on the petrol variant. This limited edition Toyota Innova Crysta model is based on the mid-spec GX version. However, the limited edition model gets a lot more accessories as standard.

However, Toyota very well knows that it cannot achieve similar sales momentum with a petrol-only powertrain lineup as fuel economy is a major concern in India, especially when fuel prices hover above the 3-digit mark.
Now, as per the latest reports, Toyota is gearing up to launch the fourth generation Innova, christened the "INNOVA HYCROSS", and the latest model could make its debut at the upcoming Auto Expo 2023 held in January.

Moreover, among the highlights of the upcoming Toyota Innova Hycross is that the MUV no longer will use the truck-like body-on-ladder frame. Instead, the upcoming Toyota Innova Hycross is said to utilise the automaker's monocoque architecture based on the TNGA-C platform and also sport a hybrid powertrain.

Thanks to this new platform, the upcoming Toyota Innova Hycross MUV is said to be bigger yet lighter than the Innova Crysta. Other than that, the upcoming Toyota Innova Hycross MUV is said to sport Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS).
In terms of powertrain, the 2023 Toyota Innova Hycross is likely to be sold with both petrol and hybrid powertrain options in India. Speaking about the hybrid powertrain, Toyota is likely to use the tried-and-tested 2.5-litre Atkinson Cycle, Hybrid powertrain from the Toyota Camry sedan.

This 2.5-litre, 4-cylinder, naturally-aspirated, Atkinson Cycle engine in the 2022 Toyota Camry Hybrid sedan produces a peak power of 175.5bhp. However, this engine is further boosted by a 160kW electric motor. In combined form, this powertrain produces 215bhp of peak power - More than decent figures for a MUV of this segment.

As mentioned, the upcoming Toyota Innova Hycross will also be offered with a petrol-only powertrain and we expect these models to be powered by the same powertrain as in the outgoing Innova Crysta MUV.

This engine in the outgoing Innova Crysta MUV is a 2.7-litre, 4-cylinder, naturally-aspirated engine with 164bhp of peak power and 245Nm of peak torque. Moreover, the Toyota Innova Crysta equipped with this engine has an ARAI certified mileage of 10.75km/l for the automatic variant.

Speaking about ADAS on the 2023 Innova Hycross, this active safety system is part of Toyota Safety Sense (TSS) and comes with features such as Adaptive Cruise Control, Lane-Keep Assist, Auto Emergency Braking, Blind-Spot monitoring and more.
Also, in terms of features, the upcoming Toyota Innova Hycross is expected to come with features such as a sunroof, a larger infotainment unit with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity, connected car tech and much more.

Thoughts About The Upcoming 2023 Toyota Innova Hycross
The upcoming 2023 Toyota Innova Hycross will be a crucial product for Toyota in India and international markets as the upcoming MUV is completely ditching the diesel powertrains in favour of petrol-hybrid units. The success of the model will highly influence the automaker's future products.
