Toyota Innova Crysta CNG Production Ready Model Spied Testing: Pics & Other Details
The Toyota Innova Crysta is the brand's best-selling model in India. The MPV has been widely accepted by Indian buyers even in its latest iteration. The Innova Crysta caters to both private buyers and fleet operators for commercial use as well.

With an aim to offer a more affordable variant with low running costs, the automaker plans to launch a CNG variant of the Innova Crysta MPV in the country. Latest spy images from Indian Auto reveal a CNG test mule in a production-ready guise.

The MPV was spotted testing on National Highway 8 around Gurugram in Haryana. Spy images also reveal the MPV to be of a lower GX trim as it is missing out on some of the features offered on the top-specs Z trim.

The test mule is not equipped with an LED projector headlamps setup, fog lamps, chrome inserts across the vehicle including door handles, window line, and on the radiator grille. It also seems to be missing the 17-inch alloy wheels seen on the top-spec trim.

As a result, the company could offer the upcoming CNG variant of the Innova Crysta in its lower trims. Toyota will primarily focus on reducing the overall cost of ownership by decreasing the purchase price and running costs.

The Toyota Innova Crysta petrol variants retail between Rs 15.66 lakh and Rs 21.78 lakh. While the diesel variants are priced between Rs 16.44 lakh and Rs 23.63 lakh. The upcoming CNG variant is expected to be priced lower than the petrol variants.

It could come with bare minimum features like AC and an audio system with an analogue instrument cluster. The bi-fuel CNG variant is expected to be powered by the existing 2.7-litre four-cylinder naturally-aspirated petrol engine.

The powertrain produces a maximum of 164bhp and a peak torque of 245Nm. The engine comes mated to either a five-speed manual or a six-speed torque-converter automatic. Although the power figures are expected to slightly decrease when using CNG fuel as seen on most models with bi-fuel in the market.

Whether Toyota will offer both manual and automatic transmission options on the CNG model remains to be seen. Also, the CNG variant could continue to be offered in seven and eight-seater configurations.

Thoughts About The Toyota Innova Crysta CNG Production Ready Model Spied Testing Ahead Of Launch
The Toyota Innova Crysta has a proven track record for its reliability, comfortable ride quality and relatively low maintenance costs. As a result, it has been a popular choice even for commercial use despite its pricing.
However, with the upcoming CNG variant, the company aims to cater to the rising demand for CNG cars, and also bring the overall cost of ownership lower than the existing models.
