Hyundai Unveils Three New Air-Conditioning Technologies To Improve In-Cabin Air Quality
South Korean auto giant Hyundai Motor Group has announced the evolution of three new in-cabin climate control technologies that will help enhance the quality of air within a vehicle.
The growing concern for air quality amid the Covid-19 pandemic has led to manufacturers like Hyundai and sister company Kia Motor offering a range of air purification products.
Hyundai's new announcement puts it on top of the in-cabin air conditioning and health race. Called After-Blow, Multi-Air Mode, and Fine Dust Indicator, the three new technologies are set to change the way air conditioning works inside a vehicle.
The brand's After-Blow technology dries condensed air that collects on the evaporator, effectively keeping mould away. Mould is the primary reason for odour during summer and in areas that are humid.
The After-Blow kicks in for 10 minutes after the engine is turned off resulting in a drier evaporator. The technology is designed to keep an influx of external air coming in; in order to prevent humidity.
Hyundai's Multi-Air Mode technology is designed to disperse conditioned air into multi-air slots built into the driver and passenger seats. While the speed of the fans remain the same, the extra dispersion allows for a more pleasant environment. The mode can be changed to standard at any point of time.
The third air-conditioning technology developed by Hyundai is essentially an air quality index measure that provides real-time in-cabin air quality data.
The system is designed to use integer numbers and colour codes to display air quality and pollution levels inside a vehicle. The quality of air is colour coded blue, green, orange, and red, depending on the concentration of ultrafine particles within the cabin.
The system displays the colours against their respective air quality index ranges as - blue (0 to 15 ug/m3), green (16 to 35 ug/m3), orange (36 to 75 ug/m3), or red (76 ug/m3 or higher).
The system has been designed to activate an air-clean model in case the air quality index reading exceeds 36 ug/m3.
