Waymo Bids Farewell To Self-Driving Bubble Car ‘Firefly’
Google's Waymo has stated that it has put an end to its bubble self-driving car, the Firefly.
US tech giant Google introduced its cute looking self-driving car, the Firefly in 2014. The bubble car did not have steering wheel or pedals to drive.
Now Waymo has stated that it's time to bid farewell to it fleet of self-driving bubble cars. The company said that it would introduce the self-driving technology into other vehicles such as the minivans.

Waymo said, "By focusing on mass-produced vehicles like the Pacifica minivan, we'll be able to bring fully self-driving technology to more people, more quickly." The top speed of the Firefly was limited to 40km/h.
Google's move hints that the company is looking to produce its vehicles instead of collaborating with automakers and selling its technology. Google is also competing with several other firms which are due to start testing.
But its is disappointing to see that Waymo's futuristic car is ditched for a conventional vehicle with the steering wheel, pedals and shifters. We expect that Google is heading in the right direction towards developing autonomous cars.
DriveSpark Thinks!
Although it is disappointing to see the Firefly disappear, it is also a welcome move as Google is looking towards a more practical solution. We expect the self-driving technology to evolve at a faster rate in the coming years.
