Volvo To Supply 24,000 Self-Driving XC90s To Uber
Volvo has announced that it will provide 24,000 self-driving XC90 SUVs to Uber.
Swedish automaker Volvo has announced that the company will supply 24,000 XC90 SUVs equipped with self-driving technology to app-based cab aggregator Uber from 2019 to 2021.
Volvo will also use the XC90 SUV to develop its autonomous car which is expected to make its market entry in 2021.
Volvo and Uber had announced its strategic partnership in 2016, and it is now followed by a new non-exclusive agreement. Uber has already used 100 self-driving XC90s in a taxi trial run conducted in Pittsburgh, US.
Volvo has stated that the XC90 is equipped with all the necessary safety, redundancy and core autonomous driving technologies which are required by Uber to develop its own self-driving technology.
