Tata Tigor Electric Could Be Sold To Private Buyers
Tata Motors could end up selling the electric variant of the Tigor sedan to private buyers if there is enough demand.
Indian automotive giant Tata Motors could sell the electric variant of the Tigor sedan to private buyers if there is enough demand for the electric car in the Indian market.
Speaking to Moneycontrol News, Tata Motors Managing Director, Guenter Butschek said, "What is good for one is good for the others. The question is how strong the demand is in the private sector. We have the process industrialised. The current challenge is industrialization of the entire supply chain in order to actually go for the volume requested by EESL."
Earlier, this year, Tata Motors had shown off the electric version of the Tiago hatchback (on which the Tigor is based) in the United Kingdom.
The electric Tiago was powered by a single electric motor that produced 114.4bhp and 200Nm of torque. The electric Tiago showcased in the UK had a top speed of 135kph and a range of 100 kilometres.
While the electric powertrain for the Tiago was developed in the UK, the electric Tigor uses an indigenously developed drivetrain, which Tata claims can be used o its other vehicles as well. An electric version of the Nano, the smallest Tata Motors car currently on sale in India, was spotted testing a few months ago as well.
