The Tata Nano was the cheapest car launched in India. Sadly now, the average daily production is just two Nano cars at the company's Sanand plant. However, this indicates that this vehicle is now as good as old-fashioned.

Since the market response for this car is not that good anymore, dealers of Tata Motors in most parts of the country have stopped placing orders for this small car in the last three-four months.

As per Business Standard, here are the numbers: Tata Motors dispatched 180 units of Nanos to its 630 sales outlets this August (against 711 in August 2016). Surprisingly, the number came down to 124 units in September and further just to 57 units in October.

A Tata Motors spokesperson stated, ‘'We already have a well-defined passenger vehicle strategy in place that will look at not only the best way of addressing the segments' requirements but an overall perspective of the portfolio. We continue to produce Nano catering to customer demand in key markets."

Powering the Nano is a 624cc parallel twin engine which produces 38bhp of power and 51Nm of peak torque. The engine comes mated to CVT or a 4speed gearbox. Prices start at Rs 2 lakh and go all the way up to Rs 3.12 lakh ex-showroom (pan India).

We got to know from Business Standard that, "A dealer in Himachal Pradesh had some buyers and I made an internal dealer transfer of a few cars to him, made possible by the GST. I sold a few units at discounts ranging between Rs 10,000 and Rs 50,000. I am left with four-five units," said a dealer from Punjab.

As far as the engine parts supplier are concerned, they said that they are no longer blocking our production capacity for Nano and also said that they will supply if there is a need. The biggest news is that BS VI components compliant are not going to be produced as of now, indicating that Tata maybe does not wish to continue production when BSVI norms kick in from 2020.

DriveSpark Thinks!
Since Tata has a huge portfolio of cars which cater to all kinds of customers we think if the Nano is not giving them a good response, they should halt the production of the vehicle for a while.
