Centre Asks To Lift 10-Year-Old Diesel Vehicle Ban In Delhi — NGT Refuses
The centre asked the NGT to lift the ban on 10-year-old diesel vehicles and the tribunal has refused to do so.
The National Green Tribunal (NGT) refused to lift the ban on 10-year-old diesel vehicles plying on the roads of Delhi and the National Capital Region on Thursday.
The centre sought a modification to this order, to which the NGT denied. The NGT pointed out to the fact that one diesel vehicle's emission is equal to that of 20 petrol vehicles or 40 CNG powered automobiles.

In April, the Delhi government asked the NGT to remove the ban on diesel vehicles that are older than ten years in the NCR region citing the reason as they are not the major cause of air pollution.

The centre also argued that different fuels – petrol and CNG – pollute in different quantities and diesel is not the only fuel to blame.

What the NGT did was right, but that does not rule out the fact that other fuels do not pollute. The centre will have to work with the NGT to make Delhi and the entire country a better place to live.
