Mahindra Racing Clinches Maiden Formula E Victory In Berlin
Indian team Mahindra Racing recorded its first victory in Formula E in Berlin. Felix Rosenqvist won his first race.
Indian Formula E team Mahindra Racing clinched its first ever victory of the championship in Berlin, the round 7 of the all-electric racing series.
Mahindra driver Felix Rosenqvist started the race from the third position. He moved up to second as Jose Maria Lopez made a sloppy start. Later in the race, he closed the gap to Lucas di Grassi.
ABT Schaeffler Audi Sport driver was struggling to maintain the battery temperature due to hard braking. Rosenqvist managed to pass di Grassi, and after the car swap, Mahindra driver pulled away from him.
Ecstatic Rosenqvist said, "It feels incredible. From the start of the day the car felt good, quick and consistent. I made a small error in Super Pole qualifying, otherwise we could have been on pole."
He added, "We came here much more prepared [than when I was on pole in Marrakesh] and it's a great compliment to the team. We have some fantastic people - I was waiting for this and finally it came."
Once di Grassi knew he had no chance of victory, he focused on ensuring he finished in the second position. He kept Nick Heidfeld at bay and finished runner-up to Rosenqvist. He needed this string result after the disappointment in Paris.
Mahindra driver Nick Heidfeld finished in the third position. He made a good start but his first car was not up to the pace. But once he swapped the car he reduced the gap to di Grassi. But he couldn't pass him.
Heidfeld said, "This is a really outstanding result for the team considering where we have come from. In the first car, I was struggling but in the second car I started to catch Lucas a little bit.For a while I thought it might be possible [to catch him] but in the end it wasn't."
