Hyundai said it established the Intelligent Safety Technology Centre to focus on driverless car technology.
Hyundai Motor, South Korea's biggest car manufacturer, announced last week that it launched a new research centre to focus on driverless car technology, named Intelligent Safety Technology Centre.

In the recent past, the driverless cars have increasingly have been in the spotlight as the vehicles, which can drive without any input from humans, can become a key market for the global automobile industry.

In a recent research by Juniper Research, nearly 22 million driverless cars are predicted to be sold around the globe by 2025.

Hyundai's integrated personnel and divisions will build the autonomous driving research institute to achieve its goal of developing cars which can technically delete the steering wheel.

Hyundai also, launched a new research centre to develop core technologies, the Strategic Technology Research Institute.

The institute will help develop robotics, artificial intelligence, new materials, and information and communications technology.

Based on the newly developed technologies, Hyundai plans to create new business models in a bid to lead the market rather than be a follower.
