Roads That Honk: An Innovative Way To Make India's Highways Safer
HP Lubricants and Leo Burnett India reveal ‘#RoadsThatHonk’, an innovative new way to make India's highways smarter and safer.
HP Lubricants and Leo Burnett India have together innovated to implement the world's first anti-collision vehicle management system for India's national highways.

The innovative new way called #RoadsthatHonk is captured in a video. #RoadsthatHonk has been conceptualised, designed and executed by Leo Burnett India and was launched on the Jammu-Srinagar Highway, a road that is touted as one of the most precarious highways by National Geographic.

#RoadsThathonk uses what HP calls SmartLife poles at sharp curves and hairpin bends, that employ advanced networked devices and combine wireless technology, radar systems, and an anti-collision warning system, all of which powered by solar cells.

Two of the poles are set at either end of key hairpin bends on the Jammu-Srinagar highway and measure the speeds of oncoming vehicles. The poles communicate with each other and use electromagnetic waves in the 24 GHz frequency range to measure the speed of oncoming traffic.
The poles honk loudly at oncoming traffic on either side of the hairpin bend to get them to slow down and avoid an accident.
