Flagship BMW M8 Set To Arrive In 2018; Le Mans Comeback Confirmed
The new BMW 8 Series will sport a range-topping go-faster M8 that will also be the car that BMW uses to return to Le Mans and endurance racing next year in the GTE class.
German carmaker BMW has confirmed that the 8 Series, which was recently unveiled in concept form will feature a range-topping M8.
The development of the M8 will run parallel alongside the new 8 Series and the new go-faster 8 Series model is expected to debut sometime next year along with its less track-focused siblings.

The M8 was revealed at the Nurburgring 24 hours race in camouflaged form. BMW also revealed that the new M8 will race in the World Endurance Championship in 2018 in the GTE Class and the race-spec car is scheduled to make its racing debut at the Daytona 24 Hours in January 2018.

The BMW M8 will replace the M6 as the flagship fast Coupe in the BMW range and while no powertrain options have been confirmed, the new M8 is expected to sport an uprated version of the 600bhp+ 4.4-litre twin-turbo V8 that will power the new M5 sedan. The new M8 will also sport all-wheel-drive and the 8-speed automatic gearbox found on the M5.

The new M8 will carry over most of the design features of the new 8 Series that will arrive next year. However, expect the usual array of design features which distinguish a car as M Division special i.e., larger air intakes, modified brakes and quad exhausts.

Frank van Meel, President BMW M Division stated "The future BMW M8 will build on the genes of the 8 Series and augment its DNA with added track ability and generous extra portions of dynamic sharpness, precision and agility. It all flows into a driving experience that bears the familiar BMW M hallmarks and satisfies our customers' most exacting requirements."
