Aston Martin DB11 V8 Revealed With AMG Power
Aston Martin has revealed the V8 powered DB11 which is powered by an AMG engine.
British carmaker Aston Martin has revealed the all-new entry-level DB11 V8 which is powered by an AMG-sourced engine. The DB11 V8 will debut at the Goodwood Festival of Speed.
The DB11 V8 is the first car to benefit from Aston Martin's technical collaboration with AMG, which will see the British marque use engines sourced from the high-performance division of Mercedes.
The DB11 is powered by AMG's 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8 that also the AMG GT line of sports cars. The Aston Martin DB11 V8 produces 503bhp and675Nm of torque which is sent to the rear wheels through an 8-speed automatic gearbox.
The DB11 V8 is just a tenth of a second slower than its V12 sibling in the sprint to 100km/h, crossing the tonne mark in just 3.9 seconds and has a top speed of 301km/h. The reason for the minimal drop in sprint time is the fact that the new engine helps the DB11 shave off 115 kilogrammes of excess weight.
While most of the engine is pure AMG, Aston has given the biturbo V8 a few tweaks of its own fitting it with a new intake and exhaust system and a wet sump and new mounts. Also new is the bespoke ECU setup.
Along with the new engine and drop in weight, Aston has also tweaked the V8 powered DB11's suspension setup and electronic stability control system. Aston Martin claims these changes help the V8 DB11 feel sharper and more agile than its more powerful V12 powered sibling.
Visually, Aston Martin has given the DB11 V8 a few aesthetic tweaks to differentiate it from the regular DB11. These include two fewer vents on the bonnet (2 instead of four), dark headlight housings and new 20-inch alloy wheels. The interior is unchanged.
Prices for the new Aston Martin DB11 V8 start from £144,900 (Rs 1.19 crore) which is £13,000 (Rs 10.74 lakh) less than the price tag of the V12 car.
DriveSpark Thinks!
The Aston Martin DB11 now features a throbbing AMG-sourced V8. While the V12-powered DB11 is no slouch, the weight loss and the revised suspension setup should help the DB11 V8 grand tourer go around corners with a lot more ease. Also, an AMG engine in an Aston Martin must be heaven for exhaust note boffins around the world.
