Hamilton & Mercedes Dominates Hungarian Free Practice One
Formula One paddock will be at the Hungaroring circuit, over the weekend. The circuit has been recently resurfaced, which makes the surface smoother and easier to drive around. Now the first Free Practice session has been completed without any mishaps on a damp circuit.
Lewis Hamilton was the fastest around the Hungarian circuit with a lap time of 1 minute 21.347 seconds. Surprisingly, the British driver was faster than his lap record time set last year. Apart from Hamilton's teammate, no other driver could get within a second of Mercedes' set time.
Nico Rosberg was second fastest with a lap time of one minute and 21.584 seconds. Both Mercedes-AMG Petronas drivers set their lap time on the super-soft Pirelli tyres. The duo were also practicing their starts for a quick getaway during the Hungarian race.
Scuderia Ferrari's Vettel and Raikkonen could only set third and fourth fastest lap time. Unfortunately, they too tried the super soft tyres and could not match the pace set by the Mercedes duo. It is going to be a tough weekend for Ferrari engineers extracting more performance.
Hungaroring is suiting the McLaren-Honda package which has an excellent chassis. Alonso and Button for the first time seemed competitive. The Spaniard was seventh, while the British driver was eighth fastest. Let's hope that McLaren-Honda can replicate this performance in qualifying.
