Performance Gap Still Exists Between Mercedes, Red Bull, & Ferrari
Formula One teams tested their machines one more time ahead of the qualifying session at the 2016 Singapore GP. All drivers and teams conducted qualifying simulations, which showcased their true performance. Top three teams are extremely close in terms of power and performance.
Mercedes has proved that they have the pace to set a single fast lap time. Unfortunately, their race pace is inconsistent and puts all three teams together. Rosberg set the fastest lap time in FP3, however, Hamilton was even faster and was unable to put a lap together.
Red Bull was on par with Mercedes in setting one quick lap around the Marina Bay street circuit. Max Verstappen was only just 0.059 seconds slower than Nico Rosberg. Daniel Ricciardo was over half a second slower compared to his Red Bull team-mate.
Kimi Raikkonen was third fastest, a few seconds of the pace set by Verstappen. Scuderia Ferrari's second driver Sebastian Vettel was a bit of a disappointment. Everyone expected Vettel to be competitive, however, he could only manage setting the fifth fastest lap time.
Expect strong and aggressive midfield battle at tomorrow's Singapore GP. Force India, Williams, Toro Rosso, and McLaren-Honda are all matched closely in terms of performance. The 2016 Singapore GP will be contested on Sunday at 17:30 IST.
