Fake Doctor Steals Audi Worth Rs. 40 Lakh During Test Drive
A conman posing a doctor steals an Audi SUV while taking a test drive.
A conman posing as a doctor from Apollo Hospital ran off with a second hand Audi Q3 in Hyderabad on Friday, October 28.
According to the dealership, the stolen Q3 with the registration number AP 28 DR 0005 was worth Rs. 40 lakh.
The conman who introduced himself as Gautam Reddy, a doctor at Apollo Hospital walked into Nani Cars, a pre-owned cars showroom in the Sri Nagar Colony area of Hyderabad.
The conman told the owner of the dealership, Narendra Kumar, that he was interested to buy an Audi Q3 SUV that was on display at the dealership.
The fake doctor then asked for a test drive of the Q3, which the owner of the dealership agreed to. The dealer sent one of his employees to accompany the ‘doctor' for the test drive.
The fake doctor then took the wheel and drove the car around the city for a while before reaching Apollo hospital. At the hospital's main gate, the con artist asked the dealership employee to step out as he wanted to drive the SUV by himself.
The dealership employee agreed to the request and the ‘doctor' drove around the hospital premises before speeding away with the SUV.
Suspecting something was wrong after the ‘doctor' didn't return, the employee contacted the dealership owner who filed a case at the Banjara Hills Police station about the theft of the Q3 SUV.
The Hyderabad police have registered a case of theft under section 379 of the Indian Penal Code. Police are analyzing CCTV videos from around the area to try and trace the stolen vehicle.
This is not the first time that such an incident has happened, as just four months ago, a father and son duo ran off with a Mercedes in Delhi.
