Audi Wins The Le Mans 24 Hours
German automaker Audi took top honours at the just concluded Le Mans 24 Hours race, overcoming a strong challenge from Toyota and Porsche. The number two Audi R18 E-tron Quattro driven by Marcel Fässler, André Lotterer and Benoit Tréluyer finished first, followed by the number one car of Lucas di Grassi, Marc Gené and Tom Kristensen.
The Toyota TS040 Hybrid was seemingly quicker than the Audis and Porsches, but a big accident on Saturday saw the car lose valuable time. The same accident took out the number three Audi piloted by Felipe Albuquerque, Marco Bonanomi and Oliver Jarvis. The Audi was forced to retire, but the Toyota recovered to take third place in the famous endurance race.

The other Toyota, which qualified first, led the race for the best part of the night but was forced to retire after an electrical problem. However, Porsche too, was able to put pressure on the Audis. The number twenty Porsche 919 Hybrid interchanged the lead with the leading number two Audi but shortly after Mark Webber took over the controls, the car was retired because of an engine malfunction.
Despite the number two Audi having a huge accident in practice, the completely rebuilt car was remarkably able to stay in the lead, while the number fourteen Porsche could only manage a 11th place finish because of a fuel flow problem.
Victory in the LMP2 category went to the Jota Sport Zytek-Nissan of Simon Dolan, Harry Tincknell and Oliver Turvey.
The GTE Pro class was won by Ferrari, with Gianmaria Bruni, Giancarlo Fisichella and Toni Vilander in a 458 Italia.
The GTE Am category was won by Aston Martin, in a factory-entered V8 Vantage driven by David Heinemeier Hansson, Kristian Poulsen and Nicki Thiim.
